Summer is here and very soon we’ll be splashing in the sea and rivers around the Kanto plain. After days of switching between scorching concrete and air-conditioned, enclosed spaces, a trip out to where the ground is moist and trees provide shade is a healing experience. We had great events by Danny, Wai and Guy and a bicycle ride organized by the amazing Earth Day Ride group, and the calendar is still open for new leaders and organizers.
This month, we give thanks for the last time to the Trippiece service, which promoted our activities, helping us reach a new generation of enthusiastic volunteers. The English-language service will cease, so the team can concentrate on the Japanese-language service, and the media site.
At the same time, our cooperation with the Language Volunteer Co-talk is gaining speed. Jambo School is hosting regular Japanese learning lessons and parties for foreigners in Japan. There are more events coming and LVC would be happy to hear your ideas and requests. Have a great summer and see you on some weekend!
We will ride through a shopping area and some parks from Mitaka station, and can shop for the afternoon’s picnic at a supermarket in Musashi Sakai and a Co-op. Then, we coninue along the Nogawa River, to a Kokubunji natural spring park, and on to Musashi Kokubunji Park, where we’ll hang out, eat and drink, take a walk, play frisbee, etc. http://bit.ly/1E7GqsD
For people who need to rent a bicycle, please come to Mitaka Station’s south exit Police box at 9:30. Hiro will meet you there and go to Susuzake Bicycle Rental: http://www.mitaka.ne.jp/machidukuri/rentalcycle/index.html to rent bikes. The cost is ¥300 /day and the number of bicycles is limited, so please do not come late.
If you’d like us to make a bicycle reservation for you, contact jambodave@green.email.ne.jp by May 14.
If you have your bicycle – we meet at 10:00am at Mitaka Station south exit Police Box.
Latecomers can come to the picnic at Musashi Kokubunji Park anytime from 12:30. It’s a 7 minute walk from NishiKokubunji Station (on the JR Chuo Line).
Please bring snacks and foods for the picnic and drinks (you can also buy them at a store near the station) as well as all kinds of park toys: balls, frisbees, unicycles, juggling balls, badminton rackets, inflatable sumo suits, foam swords and squirt guns. For riders, helmets are recommended.
