Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 10:25AM.  From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Holiday Special Express going towards Okutama at 8:47. This goes all the way to Okutama Station, arriving at 10:24AM (but be sure to get on the right part of the train which goes to Okutama, and beware that the platform may not be the regular Chuo Line Platform at Shinjuku).  Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.
 
The hike will be Okutama Station – Anjizawa – Mt. Honida – Mt. Kobutaka – Mt. One Shrine – Hatonosu Station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Meet at the ticket gate of Ashigara Station on the Gotemba Line at 10:00AM.

From Shinjuku, take the 7:51 express Odakyuu Line train going towards Odawara. In ShinMatsuda (arriving at 9:14), walk to Matsuda Station (4 minutes) and switch to the 9:30 Gotemba Line train going towards Numazu. This train arrives in Ashigara at 9:57AM. DEFINITELY get on this train because we can’t wait for the next one since they are infrequent.

Leszek will get on the train at Shimokitazawa station.

We will hike from the station to Mt. Kitoki (1212 Meters). There are many shrines, temples, and a 360 degree panoramic view from the top, with a great view of Mt. Fuji. The hiking time itself is about 5.5 – 6 hours.

Please bring your lunch and drink.

A peaceful area of broad mountain top with alpine grasses and vegetation and great views if the weather is clear.
The entry and exit roads are rather long but the 5-6 hour walk is worth it!

We will meet at 8:05 a.m. at JR Shinjuku Station at the north end of Platform 11 (front of the train) and take the Chuo Line JR Holiday Kaisoku departing at 8:14.  The train arrives at JR Takao Station at 8:59 and departs at 9:05, arriving at Saruhashi Station at 9:45.  (You can also meet us at either Takao Station at 8:59 or Saruhashi Station at 9:45.)  Starting from Saruhashi Station, we walk through pine and mixed forests to the top of Momokura-yama, where there are fine views of the mountains of Yamanashi to the north and Tanzawa to the south.  Hopefully the autumn leaves will be in full color!  We follow a ridge trail back to Saruhashi Station (the FOE website says Torisawa Station, but this is wrong!), stopping off at the “Monkey Bridge” (“Saruhashi”) before taking the Chuo Line back to Hachioji for a stop at the Galway Irish pub. 

The hike is rated moderately hard and the walking time is about 5.5 hours.  A donation of 1,000 yen to Friends of the Earth is requested.  More information is available at the FOE websites:  (in English) / (in Japanese).

We will meet at the ticket gates of Kawaguchiko station at 10:26 AM.

Take the following train: JR Holiday Kaisoku from Shinjuku station 8:14AM – Kawaguchiko station 10:26AM. From there, we take the 10:35 Fujikyu Yamanashi bus (750 yen) to Tenkachaya (arriving at 11:05AM).

If you’d like to go with Wai, please meet at the end of the train at Hachioji Station at 8:53AM.

We will be unable to wait for latecomers.

: Tenkachaya (spectacular views of Mt. Fuji in good weather) – Misakayama 1596m – Kurodake 1793m – Kawakuchiko station. 

The total walking time for the hike will be about 5~6 hours.

Train: Shinjuku Station (Keio Line Limited Express) departing at 9:00 and arriving at Kitano at 9:36. Transfer at Kitano to the Keio-Takao Line departing at 9:38 and arriving at Takao-san-guchi Station at 9:52.

Return: Keio Bus from the Hikage bus stop to Takao Station (JR / Keio Lines) arriving around 5:00 or 6:00 PM, depending on which bus we catch.

Course: Takao-san-guchi Station – Mt. Takao Inariyama Trail – Shiroyama (lunch) – Kobotoke-touge – Mt. Kagenobu – Kogesawa – Ura-takao Plum Orchard – Hikage bus stop – Takao Station (JR/Keio Lines) – HUB British pub in Hachioji.

8:47 Leave Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line (special express going towards TakaoSanGuchi)
9:38 Arrive at Takao Station
9:47 Take the Chuo Line train (towards Ootsuki)
10:15 Arrive at Torisawa Station

Meet on the front of the 9:47 Chuo Line train at Takao if you want to go together from there.

Meeting Time & Place: 8:47AM at Tsukuba Station’s ticket gate
Take the Tsukuba Express Train at Kita Senju at 8:11AM.  This arrives at Tsukuba (the final destination) at 8:45AM and costs 1,030 yen.
 
People going from Kita Senju  Station can meet in the front car of the of the Tsukuba Express Line to start at 8:11. 
 
We will take the 9:00 bus from Tsukuba Station to TsukubaJinjaIriguchi (36 minutes, 720 yen), and hike up Mt. Tsukuba (877M・altitude difference 610M).  The hiking time is about 5  hours. The Azaleas should be BEAUTIFUL!!!
 
After that, we hope to take the 16:30 train from Tsukuba to Yashio (on the Tsukuba Line, arriving at 17:07) and go to Herman’s (a Canadian Friend) nice place for a fun-filled party. People who only want to go to the party should meet at Yashio Station’s ticket gate at 17:08.

BYO Party in a nice house, where David’s friend Herman lives (Togasaki 3119-2, Misato-Shi, Saitama 341-0044). We will have a lot of fun there. Party fee – 500 yen (for order-out pizza).
Please bring whatever snacks and drinks you want. We can buy food and drink near Herman’s house. Latecomers can call Herman at 080-4140-6470.

Course:  Shomaru Station – Shoumaru Pass – Izu Peak – Agano Station

From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s 8:05AM train (going towards MitsumineGuchi) and get off at Shomaru Station, arriving at 9:27AM. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.  We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 9:30AM.

Meet on the front of the 8:05 train at Ikebukuro if you want to go from there.

Meeting: Suruga-Oyama Station Ticket Gate 9:53

Train: Shinjuku (Odakyu line train going to Odawara) 7:51 – Shinmatsuda (arrives at 9:14) –   Matsuda Station (JR Gotemba Line – leaves at 9:28) –  Suruga-Oyama Station – 9:50 arrival

Please be sure to get on the right train, since we can’t wait for the next one.  You can get on the front car at Shinjuku Station to ride with others at 7:51. David will get on from Shin Yurigaoka.

Course:

Suruga-Oyama station – Furounotaki waterfall – Furou-yama – Tani-ga-yama – Suruga-Oyama station.

Take the Chuo Line (Special Express) at 8:26AM from Shinjuku Station (going towards Takao). This arrives at Takao at 9:09. Change at Takao Station to the Chuo Line (going towards Kofu), leaving at 9:20.  Take this to Ootsuki Station, arriving at 9:56AM.

For JAMBO members, the cost is 1,500 yen  for men and 1000 yen for women w/reservation (or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation).  Foreigners get at 500 yen discount.  This includes the buffet! Drinks can be bought at Happy Hour prices.

Half of your admission fee will be donated to Tokyo River Friends. So you can have an enjoyable evening and help a good cause at the same time. If you’d like to go with David, please meet at Exit 3 of  Kamiyacho Station’s Hibiya Line at 7:00PM on the 9th.

Nijikai Dinner at nearby restaurant: 17:30-18:30

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at NISHI KASAI Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER
Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather/daylight permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible and up to the members who want to stay for a nijikai.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on Nakagawa Island (under the C2 highway) at the waterline near the Tozai Line bridge. Note: That you must access the Nakagawa island from the Kasaibashi Bridge. There is no access from the road bridge next to the Tozai Line. Also call my cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and use rain ware and take coveras necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Meeting: Suruga-Oyama Station Ticket Gate 9:45

There is an a springs at the end, so if you want to go there, bring towel and a change of clothes.

Take the 9:41 Oume line train from Oume going towards Okutama. It arrives in Okutama at 10:24 am (Make sure to be on this train as we cannot wait for the next one)

Course: Okutama station → Atago Shrine →  Nokogiri-yama (1109 meters) → Okutama station
Please wear good shoes, bring lunch and drink (In order to avoid crowding at supermarkets and convenient stores, please bring your lunch with you to the meeting place.  We will not stop at any stores after meeting).

Walking time: about 4.5 hours (13km)
