Jambo & Earthday Group Ride
Let’s ride to Chim Chim Racing!

We will ride from Mitaka station, through Musashino Central Park, pass by Kodaira Old Village( http://kodaira-furusatomura.jp/ ), where we might have a local cable Television, J-com, interview us. You can let us know if you do not wish to be in TV show. We can buy local vegetables from the farmer’s stands along with Tama Lake Cycling Road  then we’ll have a BBQ and lots of fun. Children and beginner riders are very welcome!
We can also buy food and drinks near Kodaira station, which is near the goal.
The goal aka BBQ spot will be at Chim Chim Racing(http://chimchimracing.com/) – the owner Mr. ZUKKY is a bicycle frame builder. We will exchange great bike stories. We can ride up to Murayama reservoir as an optional tour.

For people who need to rent a bicycle, please come to Mitaka Station’s south exit Police box at 9:30. Hiro (090-3538-5511) and David will meet you there and go to Susuzake Bicycle Rental: ( http://www.mitaka.ne.jp/machidukuri/rentalcycle/index.html ) to rent bikes. The cost is ¥300 /day and the number of bicycles is limited.

If you have your bicycle – we meet at 10:00am at Mitaka Station’s south exit Police Box.

Latecomers can come to the BBQ at Chim Chim Racing at 12:30. The nearest station is Kodaira station on the Seibushinjuku line and Haijima line.

Please bring snacks and foods for the BBQ and drinks (you can also buy them at a store near the BBQ location or at some farmer’s stands) as well as any kind of park toys: balls, frisbees, unicycles, juggling balls, badminton rackets, inflatable sumo suits, foam swords and squirt guns. For riders, helmets are recommended.

There are many places where it’s easy to get lost, so it will be a VERY FUN TIME!!!
Meet at the ticket gate of MusashiItsukaichi Station (the last stop of the Itsukaichi Line) at 10:50AM.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line (Express goingt towards Oume) at 9:16, arriving at Haijima Station at 10:08AM. Change to the Itsukaichi Line, leaving Haijima at 10:12 and arriving at MusashiItsukaichi at 10:29AM.

David will get on the front of the same train at Nakano Station.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line (Special Express going towards Oume) at 9:09 , arriving at Haijima Station at 9:47AM.  Change to the 9:52 JR Itsukaichi Line train, arriving at Akigawa Station at 10:01.
David will get on the front of the Itsukaichi Line train at Haijima at 9:52AM.

We’ll look for swimming places along the river so, if you want to swim, please bring your swimsuit.

Meet at the ticket gate of Katase Enoshima Station at 11:10AM. Take the 9:56AM Odakyuu Line Express (express going towards Fujisawa) to Fujisawa (arriving at 10:53AM) and change there to the Odakyuu Line going towards KataseEnoshima
(leaving at 10:56AM). This arrives at KataseEnoshima at 11:03AM.

Have a nice walk to the Enoshima Island, up the hill to the shrine, then to the opposite side, where we will swim, relax, and play around. Then, off to the beach for more of the same. Finish with a sunset party on the beach!!!

Ootsuki Station – Mt. Iwadono – Chigootoshi Cliffs – Ootsuki Station
 
Take the Keio Line at 9:20AM from Shinjuku Station(going towards Kitano). Change at Kitano (arriving at 10:00, cross the platform and get on the 10:01 train going towards Takaosanguchi) and go to Takao station, arriving at 10:11AM. Change at Takao Station to the Chuo Line.  Take the 10:16AM train going towards Ootsuki and get off at Ootsuki Station, arriving at 10:52AM.  Using these trains, the total cost comes to 940 yen.

Meeting Place/Time: Ootsuki Station (Chuo Line) Ticket Gate 11:00AM (If you’re going from Shinjuku Station, we will meet on the front car of the Keio Line train at 9:20)
Walking time: about 4 hours.

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.
The cliffs on this hike are especially spectacular!!!

Nishizawa Valley is a scenic spot which is proud of a leading hotspot in Japan for the splendor of its autumn leaves !
Includes Must-see “Nanatsugama Godan-no-taki ” (Wonderful Waterfall !! )

On the way-back, we will go to “Hayabusa-onsen”, and also drop in at “ Erinji Temple” (Takeda Shingen’s family temple) if time allows.

Meeting:At 10:10 am at the trailhead of Nishizawa Valley ( in front of the tourist sign/toilets).

Traffic:To get on either of the 8:30 bus or 9:05 bus, take ① or ② (bus charge-1,030 yen) without delay. Regarding other JR train times, to check and confirm by yourselves.

1 JR Shinjuku (Chuo Line) 6:00 departure→Takao 6:56→change to the Chuo Honsen train departing at 7:02→Enzan arrival 8:12→go out the south exit to the bus-stop No.1(for Nishizawa Valley)→Enzan 8:30 bus departure→Nishizawa-keikoku-iriguchi arrival 9:30. (Guide:David, who can meet people on the front car of the Chuo Honsen Line train at Takao at 7:02 )

We’ll not only go up Mt. Takao, but also take a walk along Koshukaido (a major road lined with 4km of around 770 yellow Ginko trees) from Takao Station (about 3-4 hours walking altogether).

From Shinjuku Station, take the 10:31AM Keio Line Express, which arrives in Takaosanguchi at 11:25AM.  If you’d like to go with David, please meet on the front car of the Keio Line at Shinjuku Station at 10:31AM.  Otherwise, meet at the Takaosanguchi ticket gate at 11:27.

A 4 hour hike in the Zushi area, with evergreen forests, and going up Mt. Futago. We will meet at Shin-Zushi Station’s (on the Keihin Kyuuko Line) ticket gate at 10:00AM.
 
From Shinagawa, take the 9:08 Keihin-kyuuko Super Express to Kanazawa Hakkei, arriving there at 9:44. Change to the 9:49 KeikyuuShinZushi Line (going towards ShinZushi, arriving at Shin-Zushi at 9:56.
Those who want to ride together, please get on the front car of the train.
 
We will finish the hike at Taura Station (on the Yokosuka Line).
Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

March 1 event is rained out. Instead, we meet at Shinjuku Gyoen’s Okido gate at 3:00 (park&eats).

You can choose the easier short course or longer course. 

We will meet at the ticket gate of Ogose at 10:53AM. From Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo Line’s Express Train at 9:40 and change at Sakado (arriving here at 10:24 to the Tobu Ogose Line. Take the 10:33AM Tobu Ogose Line train to the end (Ogose Station). It arrives at Ogose at 10:51AM. From here, we hike by a nice temple, down to Ogose Plum Tree Park, which should be in bloom and has 1,000 trees, with some being 600 years old, and then up a small mountain. The short course goes back to Ogose Station and the long one goes to Higashi Moro Station.
 
The short hike (David) itself is about 3.5 hours and the long hike (Leszek) is about 5 hours. Should be a lot of fun! The train fare is 720 Yen one-way. 
 
If you’d like to go from Ikebukuro, get on the front of the 9:40 train at Ikebukuro Station. David will get on that car at Wakoshi Station at 9:53.

We will meet at the IzuHakoneDaiyuuzan Line’s Iidaoka Station Ticket Gate at 10:12 AM.
8:11  Depart Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line (Express going towards Odawara) and get off at Odawara, arriving at 9:47. Change to the 10:00 IzuHakoneDaiyuuzan train going towards Daiyuuzan. This arrives at Iidaoka Station at 10:10.
If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 8:11 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara).

Course:  Odawara Station – Odawara Flower Garden – Ikoi Forest – Wanpaku Park (we’ll stay 2 hours with many fund things to do there) – Odawara Castle Park (for Cherry blossom viewing?) – Odawara Station

We will meet at the Chichibu Railway’s Wadoukuroya Station’s ticket gate at 10:10AM or on the front car of the Seibu Ikebukuro Line at Ikebukuro Station at 8:05AM. Take the 8:05AM Seibu Ikebukuro Line express train (going towards Nagatoro) at Ikebukuro Station. This arrives at WadouKuroya at 10:07. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train.

Meeting Place and Time: Exit 3 of Yushima Station (on the Chiyoda Line) at 13:30
 
The program is ¥1000 and includes explanations of the shrine, the park, and foodstuffs sold at the stands) along the way in English. Everyone is requested to use English only for the first hour. After that, people may speak in their preferred language, but David will use only English only until 16:00.

15:00 – 17:00 -See the hydrangea, the pond and the food stands in Ueno Park

Meeting Time & Place: 10:45AM at Seibu Chichibu Station’s ticket gate
 
Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Express train from Ikebukuro Station at 9:03AM.  This arrives at Hanno Station (the final destination) at 9:50AM.  Change here to the Seibu Chichibu Line (which leaves at 9:53) and get off at Seibu Chichibu Station (the last stop) (arriving at 10:43AM).
 
Meet on the front of the 9:03 train at Ikebukuro if you want to go from there.
 
Hiking Course:  SeibuChichibu Station – 3 shrines on the pilgrimage path – Muse Park (with a spring and observation tower) – Music Shrine – Seibu Chichibu Station

We meet at Miyanohira Station at 10:15AM. Take the 9:09AM Oume Line  Express train (it’s a Chuo Line train that goes all the way to Oume) from Shinjuku Station. This arrives at Ome Station at 10:07.  Go across the platform and take the 10:09 train towards Okutama. This train arrives at MiyanoHira Station at 10:12. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train.

From Shinjuku, take the Special Holiday Express train going towards Okutama (it’s the Chuo Line but may be on another track which is not the main Chuo Line track – BE CAREFUL!) to Okutama (leaving Shinjuku at 8:19 and arriving at Okutama at 9:51). 

David will be at the Okutama Station ticket gate at 10:00 to bring you to the supermarket (where you can get food and drink) and the river. We’ll hang out on the river for a while, and then go for a hike, swimming here and there along the way.

COURSE: Okutama Station – Tama River – Mt. Atago – Shiromaru Dam – Hatonosu Gorge – Hatonosu Station

From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s 9:03AM train and get off at Hanno Station, arriving there at 9:50AM. Change to the Seibu Chichibu Line (across the platform), taking the 9:53 train.  This arrives at Ashigakubo at 10:30.  Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.
 
People going from Ikebukuro Station can meet at the front end of the train on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line platform at 9:03, or meet at Ashigakubo’s ticket gate at 10:32.

We will meet at 8:05 a.m. at JR Shinjuku Station at the north end of Platform 11 (front of the train) and take the Chuo Line JR Holiday Kaisoku departing at 8:14.  The train arrives at JR Takao Station at 8:59 and departs at 9:05, arriving at Saruhashi Station at 9:45.  (You can also meet us at either Takao Station at 8:59 or Saruhashi Station at 9:45.)  Starting from Saruhashi Station, we walk through pine and mixed forests to the top of Momokura-yama, where there are fine views of the mountains of Yamanashi to the north and Tanzawa to the south.  Hopefully the autumn leaves will be in full color!  We follow a ridge trail back to Saruhashi Station (the FOE website says Torisawa Station, but this is wrong!), stopping off at the “Monkey Bridge” (“Saruhashi”) before taking the Chuo Line back to Hachioji for a stop at the Galway Irish pub. 

The hike is rated moderately hard and the walking time is about 5.5 hours.  A donation of 1,000 yen to Friends of the Earth is requested.  More information is available at the FOE websites:  (in English) / (in Japanese).

People going from Ikebukuro Station can meet at the front end of the train on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line at 8:05, or meet at Agano’s ticket gate at 9:18.

Course (from Agano Station): Kaburi Pass – Kasasugi Pass – Kuroyama Santaki –  Ogose Station (on the Tobu Tojo Line)

Note: Kuroyama Santaki was once a training center for monks who practice asceticism, but now it has become a sightseeing spot for hikers.

Walking Time: About 5 Hours (12KM) plus a lot of time for fun, so the hike should take about 6 hours.

Bring your own beverages and  food for lunch.

Meeting Place/Time: 10:40AM at Sagamiko station south ticket gate. Make sure to arrive by this time (or before) as we need to get the bus and cannot wait for the next train.

Chuo line train arrives 10:40am (10:31am from Takao). Gary will be in the front car from Takao or before. Then we will get bus from outside the station to the start of the hike – 10.55am, bus no.21 (about 7min, Y200). Hike will start just after 11am.

Hiking route: Near Sagamiko Pleasure forest park – Kenkyoji Temple – Mt Sekirou (703m) – Sagami Lake side – Sagamiko station

Walking Time: 5 Hours 

There are some very impressive large boulders and massive trees on the hike, an interesting temple, and views of Mt Fuji and Lake Sagami, weather permitting! The walk is quite steep but not particularly difficult. Some parts could be slippery after rain.

Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise shoes or hiking boots to avoid your injury.

We will meet at the ticket gate of Nishikamakura Station (on the Shounan Monorail) at 10:00AM.
You can get on the Shounan Monorail (going towards Enoshima) at Oofuna Station at 9:45AM, arriving in Nishikamakura at 9:54AM. You can ride with others on the first car of the train if you’d like.

The End of the Year Party will be held even if the hike is canceled.

○About hiking

We will meet at the ticket gate of Higashi Moro at 9:55AM. From Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo Line’s Express Train (going towards Ogawamachi) at 9:00 and change at Sakado (arriving here at 9:37) to the Tobu Ogose Line. Take the 9:39AM Tobu Ogose Line train to Higashi Moro Station.  It arrives there at 9:53AM.  If you’d like to go together from Ikebukuro, get on the front of the 9:00 Tobu Tojo Line train from there.

COURSE: Higashi Moro Station – Kamakita Lake – Shuzutani Waterfall – Moroyama Sogo Park – Higashi Moro Station.  Please feel free to take a look at the course at here:

The walking time itself is about 5 hours. Should be a lot of fun! The train fare is 650 Yen one-way from Ikebukuro. Please bring your own food and drink.

 

About the-end-of-the-year party

We will have an end-of-the-year party at a Japanese Pub (from 18:00) in Ikebukuro. Reservations are needed by December15(Thu) 9 pm.  Please make a reservation to Miki at ( nawatobi1335@gmail.com ).  First 30 people will be accepted.

It is an 11 course, all-you-can-drink course for ¥4000 (2 hours) at Ikebukuro’s YuYu Japanese Pub.

<<About the cancellation fee>>  Due to the busy winter season, you will be asked to pay 80 % of the cancellation fee anytime if the cancelation is made after 5 pm on December 16 (Fri).  So, please make sure to cancel before this time and date if necessary.   Contact Miki at ( nawatobi1335@gmail.com ).  After the party, we will see the Christmas illuminations there.

Course:  Mogusaen Station (Keio Line) – Nanao Hills Hiking Course  – Mogusaen(Plum Tree Park and Festival) – Takahatafudo Station or Tama DobutsuKoen Station

Walking Time: About 4 Hours (10KM)

From Shinjuku, take the Keio Line (Special Express) train at 9:40AM  and get off at Fuchuu Station at 10:00. Change to the Keio Line Local train, leaving at 10:04 and arriving at Mogusaen Station at 10:12. We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 10:15AM

People going from Shinjuku Station can meet at the front end of the 9:40 train.

There are 500 Plum trees in Mogusaen Park with white, pink and mixed flowers:

2 Flower Hot Spots & Mt. Oogusu Hiking!

We will meet at the ticket gate of Kinugasa Station at 9:55AM. From Shinbashi, take the 8:39 JR Yokosuka Line train (going towards Kurihama). This arrives at Kinugasa Station at 9:54.

If you want to ride with David and others, please get on the front car of the 8:39 Yokosuka Line train at Shinbashi or any station thereafter.

Hiking Course: Kinugasa Station – Shoubuen (Wisteria Festival) – Mt. Oogusu – Shounan International Village (Azaleas) – Koyasu no Sato Park  – Akiya TateIshi Coastline – Zushi Station (by bus or on foot)

The hike itself is about 5 hours.

Part 1 – Natural Treasures Course

Metting Place/Time: MusashiItsukaichi Station ticket gate at 8:50AM

Take the 7:44 Special Holiday Express (Akigawa 3) going towards MusashiItsukaichi (BE SURE TO GET ON THE RIGHT SECTION, since part of the train goes to Okutama) from Shinjuku (Platform 11). This arrives at MusashiItsukaichi at 8:48

David will get on the front car of this train at Nakano Station for those who want to ride together.

Part 2 – Mountain and River Hike

Meet at the ticket gate of Higashi-akiru Station (on the JRItsukaichi Line) at 11:45AM.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line (Express going towards Oume) at 10:37 , arriving at Oume Station at 11:24AM.  Change to the 11:32 JR Itsukaichi Line train. It arrives at Higashi-akiru Station at 11:37.

The early group’s train will arrive there (from the opposite direction) at 11:44.

Course: Higashi-akiru Station – Mt. Daichou Hiking Course – Tamagawa River – Fussa Station

Walking Time: about 4 hours
