Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:55AM.  From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Holiday Special Express going towards Okutama at 8:19. This goes all the way to Okutama Station, arriving at 9:54AM (but be sure to get on the right part of the train which goes to Okutama, and beware that the platform may not be the regular Chuo Line Platform at Shinjuku (probably leaves from platform #7).

Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

The hike will be Okutama Station – Anjizawa – Mt. Honita – Mt. Kobutaka –  Oneyama Shrine – Hatonosu Station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise or tracking shoes to avoid  injury.

After the hike, those who want to go are welcome to join David and others to Tachikawa (on the way back to Tokyo) to see the Illumination there and have a “Farewell to 2019 drink.”

Details: Gather at BARAKINAKAYAMA Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 10:30 and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks. About 12:45 we will take a break for lunch with bentos riverside. Either bring your own or I can pick up bentos at a nearby convenience store using my bicycle. If you come late, it will be about a 25 to 30 min walk to our location on the river (behind the Clean Spa) or take the Clean Spa shuttle buss. Also call James cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us. This event will not be cancelled in the case of rain (unless heavy winds or lightning).

If you cancel before 17:00 on December 12 (Thursday), there will be no 

cancellation fee. However, full payment will be required for anyone making a cancellation

2) Arakawa River Clean Up

Details

We will meet at Yahiro Station (Asakusa Line) outside the only ticket gate at 1:00pmn, and then walk to the river (about 6-7 min.) and pick up trash along the river bank for about 3 to 3.5 hours. Afterwards we will have a river side dinner picnic or go to a nearby restaurant for dinner (participants will decide based on weather, etc.)

Recommended: Wear appropriate clothes for the weather and generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Rubber boots are optional for this clean up (some muddy places but participants can also stay on dry land).

If you come late, walk to the river (between the Route 6 bridge and the train line bridge) and look for us at the water line. Also call my cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

This event will only be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Check this page or message me if any doubt.

1) Ranzan Gorge Fall Color HIKING – Famous for its maple trees!!!

Meeting Place/Time: Ogawamachi Station Ticket Gate at 9:50AM

Course:  Ogawamachi Station – Mt. Sengen – Mt.Shiro-yama

 – Mt. Monomi – Ranzan Gorge- Mt. Ohira  – MusashiRanzan Station

From Ikebukuro, take the  Tobu Tojo (Express) Line’s 8:40AM train and get off at Ogawamachi Station, arriving at 9:49AM.  Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.

We will have a 5-6 hour walk up a few small mountains and into a gorge.

Gather at NISHI KASAI Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate (inside the station) at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather/daylight permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible and up to the members who want to stay for a nijikai.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people are welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and use rain ware and take coveras necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Have a blast with fall colors. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.
