The Forest

Once upon a time there was a forest where the birds sang by day and the insects by night. Trees flourished, flowers bloomed, and all manner of creatures roamed about in freedom.

And all who entered there were led to Solitude, which is the home of God, who dwells in Nature’s silence and Nature’s beauty.

But then the Age of Unconsciousness arrived, when it became possible for people to construct buildings a thousand feet high and to destroy rivers and forests and mountains in a month. So (more…)

Oneness

The awareness of our oneness, while foreign to the ego, is clear to the heart. And that’s why unity is the key to our happiness.

It’s only when we transcend the illusion of separation, refusing the false testimony of our physical senses, that we will make the quantum leap forward into a joy-filled life.

The recognition of our unity is the healing of all our wounds.
(From the book “Everyday Grace” by Marianne Williamson, page 257)

Environmental/Social Issues English Class – Whaling

This is a monthly JAMBO International Environmental/Social Issues English Class. Like with other JAMBO International events, half of the fees will be given to African Wildlife Foundation, so you can learn English, learn (and talk) about a current issue, and help the cause (which is discussed) all at the same time.

The cost is 2000 yen per person and attendance is limited to 12. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first serve basis (by writing to jambodave@green.email.ne.jp). The class is held at JAMBO school in MonzenNakacho (See Map – http://www.jamboschool.jp/en/contact.html).

After the class, interested participants can stay and have some eats and drinks in the school while socializing.
David Howenstein is the teacher and the class format is as follows. First, David will teach vocabulary which will be used during the lesson. He will then give a presentation about the topic. There will then be a discussion about the topic, during which time David will write good vocabulary and sentences (which come up in the discussion) on the whiteboard. The class is open to all – from beginners to advanced. You can come just to listen (if you don’t wish to talk) and David will give each participant (who wishes to talk) time to speak.   This is on June 13 (Friday) from 7:00PM (the door opens at 6:45) to 8:30. The topic is “Whaling.” David will present some interesting statistics and facts about this topic as well.   Afterwards, we will have a social hour in JAMBO School with the participants who want to join, so you are welcome to buy food and drink beforehand, or go out to a nearby store to get some with David after the class.

The Spirit of Jambo

ChichibuMay6 - 2510
The JAMBO International’s Financial Statements for 2013 are now up on the website at http://jambointernational.org//about/revenue-expenditure/ (look under 2013). Feel free to take a look. They show how participants’ funds are used, JAMBO’s healthy condition, and the names of all of those who volunteer their time and money to make JAMBO possible.

Money, however, is only a minor part of the JAMBO mission. The motto – Helping Others, Doing Good – is indeed the main purpose. And yet, it is my hope that I (and others) live up to the grander spirit of JAMBO, which includes

Respect for Others
Encouraging Diversity
Being Open to Everyone
Empowering Ourselves and Others
Understanding & Acceptance
Compassion & Kindness towards All of Life
Cultivating a Sense of Wonder

JAMBO depends on the cooperation of so many people, and I am only a part of it, yet I have been asked time and again what I really want JAMBO to be. This is it, and I write about these things on my bi-weekly blog (http://jambodave.blogspot.jp/ ), which is in English only. Even if you don’t understand English, please take a look at the link at the end of each blog since they are quite inspirational. I especially like the most recent one (http://www.karmatube.org/videos.php?id=2748) with its catchy tune and the circle of kindness. ENJOY!!!
