Arakawa River Clean Up

We will meet at Yahiro Station (Asakusa Line) outside the only ticket gate at 1:00pmn, and then walk to the river (about 6-7 min.) and pick up trash along the river bank for about 3 to 3.5 hours. Afterwards we will have a river side dinner picnic or go to a nearby restaurant for dinner (participants will decide based on weather, etc.)

Recommended: Wear appropriate clothes for the weather and generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Rubber boots are optional for this clean up (some muddy places but participants can also stay on dry land).

If you come late, walk to the river (between the Route 6 bridge and the train line bridge) and look for us at the water line. Also call James’ cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

This event will only be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Check this page or message me if any doubt.

Tama “Abundance of Parks” Walk

Meeting Place & Time: Tsudayama Station (Nanbu Line) at 11:45AM

Course:  Tsudayama Station (Nanbu Line) – Green Hill Cemetary – Higashi Takane Forest Park (Lunch) – Mukougaoka Yuuen Remains Park – Ikuta Green Area  -Mukougooka Yuuen Station (Odakyuu Line)

Nihon Minka-en (500 yen)

We go mostly through parks, but there’s also walking on roads.

Walking Time: About 3 Hours (8KM) plus a lot of time for fun, so the hike should take about 5 hours.

The parks we go to have a daffodil garden, an observation platform at the top of Mt. Masugata, a Fountain Square,  a Science Center for Youth (which includes a Planetarium,  Nihon Minka-en (Japan Open-Air Folk Museum) where there are many Traditional Folk Houses (500 yen) and more!!!

Train Schedule

8:26 Leave Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line (Express going towards Takaosanguchi)

9:18 Arrive at Takao Station and change to the Chuo Line

9:24 Take the Chuo Line (towards Kofu)

9:32 Arrive at Sagamiko

The hiking course time will be about 6 hours.

Edogawa River Clean Up & Nijikai

SCHEDULE

Gather at Myoden Station: 13:00

River Clean Up: 13:30-16:30

Relaxing riverside: 16:30-17:00

Return to station by Car: 17:00-17:15

Nijikai Dinner at nearby restaurant: 17:30-18:30

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at MYODEN Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to te Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of the members who do not go home directly.

OPTIONAL SWIMMING

The Ichikawa Clean Spa with swimming pool (jacuzzis), and sento with rotemburo is only 5 min. away on foot. For those interested in finishing their day with a swim or hot bath (bring swim ware and cap, Y500 admission to pool + Y600 if entering sento/rotemburo area)

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Mt. Mitake & Mt. Hinode Hiking

(Participation Fee 1000 yen, Intermediate, Cancelled in case of rain)

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Ikusabata Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:12 am.

Make sure to bring your lunch and plenty of liquids.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Special Express at 7:51 to Takao. In Tachikawa (arriving at 8:17, change for the Oume Line, leaving Tachikawa at 8:26 and arriving at Oume Station at 8:56AM. Change here to the Oume Line (local) leaving across the platform at 8:57 and arriving at Ikusabata Station at 9:10AM. Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

Hiking Course:  Ikusabata Station – Mt. Hinode – Nanadai Waterfall – Rock Garden – Mitake Shrine – Mt. Mitake – Mitake Station  The hiking time is about 6.5 hours.

Chichibu Hiking – Waterfall and Scenic Experience (771 Meters)

Meeting Time & Place: 10:15AM at Nishi Agano Station’s ticket gate 

Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Express train from Ikebukuro Station at 8:50AM.  This arrives at Hanno Station (the final destination) at 9:42AM.  Change here to the Seibu Chichibu Line (which leaves at 9:43 just across the platform) and get off at Nishi  Agano Station (arriving at 10:13AM).  (Definitely arrive at this time!)

Hiking Course:  Nishi Agano Station – Ogi no Daira – Shirataki Waterfall – Fudou Waterfall – Big Waterfall – Nishi Agano Station  The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Odakyuu Line Hiking & New Year Hot Springs!

(Intermediate Course) (Participation Fee 1000 Yen, Cancelled in case of rain)

Meet at the ticket gate of Shin Matsuda Station on the Odakyuu Line at 9:30AM.

From Shinjuku, take the 8:03 express Odakyuu Line train (towards KataseEnoshima) and change at SagamiOono (arriving at 8:39 and taking the 8::41 express towards Odawara. Get off at ShinMatsuda (arriving at 9:28). We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 9:30AM (DEFINITELY get on this train because we can’t wait for the next one since we take a 9:40 bus)

*COURSE:: ShinMatsuda Station – Yadorigi Bus Stop (by bus – 520 yen – 30 minutes) – Kuri no Ki Doh (908 meters) – Mizuhi Great Falls – Black Dragon’s Falls – Shijuu-hasse-gawa River – Shibusawa Station – TokaiDaigakumae Station (by train) – Sazanka Hot Springs (near TokaiDaigakumae Station)

The hiking time itself is about 5.5 hours.

For you lazy people who just want to enjoy a hot springs and a New Year’s Party, we will meet at the Super Hot Springs (a 5 minute walk from the Odakyuu Line’s TodaiDaigakuMae Station) at around 17:30 to do just this. Okutama Hike & Tachikawa Illumination/Farewell 2019 CHEERS

(¥1000 Participation Fee)   (Cancelled in case of rain) (A bit difficult)

(Bring your own beverages and lunch box)

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:55AM.  From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Holiday Special Express going towards Okutama at 8:19. This goes all the way to Okutama Station, arriving at 9:54AM (but be sure to get on the right part of the train which goes to Okutama, and beware that the platform may not be the regular Chuo Line Platform at Shinjuku (probably leaves from platform #7).

Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

The hike will be Okutama Station – Anjizawa – Mt. Honita – Mt. Kobutaka –  Oneyama Shrine – Hatonosu Station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise or tracking shoes to avoid  injury.

After the hike, those who want to go are welcome to join David and others to Tachikawa (on the way back to Tokyo) to see the Illumination there and have a “Farewell to 2019 drink.”
