This event is run by the International Party group but Jambo, DayTrips, and JAMBO Volunteers are welcome. PLEASE RESERVE to jambodave@green.email.ne.jp (so BBQ goods can be prepared).
10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Chiba Prefecture, Funabashi, 本中山7-7-1
The meeting place will be outside the gate of Barakinakayama Station on the Tozai Line (about 25 min. from Nihonbashi)
Let’s have fun, and experience and enjoy the beautiful scenery of our local environment while at the same time making it better. This will be a 3-part event. You can attend just one or two parts or all three depending on your arrival time.
Part 1: At 10:00a.m. we’ll meet at Barakinayama Station (Tozai Line). At 10:15 a.m. we will walk about 1km to the nearby Edogawa river. We’ll then walk along the waterline to the mouth of Tokyo Bay (approx. 2km) picking up trash. Gloves and good walking shoes are recommended. We will provide the trash bags.
Part 2: At 1:00p.m. BBQ on a grill at the mouth of the river facing Tokyo Bay. We will provide all of the food/drinks with beef/pork, vegetables, breads, fruit, pies and handmade ice cream (made at the site), and beer, wine and soft drinks. (if going directly to BBQ see bus schedules below)
Part 3: 4:00p.m. Visit to the nearby Ichikawa Clean Spa for swimming, jacuzzis and open air rotemburo. For pool area, bring swim suit, cap, towel and optional googles. For sento/rotemburo area, bring towel. (If going directly to the Clean Spa see bus schedules below.)
Participation fees: Part 1 and Part 2 Y1,500 (If only attending the BBQ Y2,500). Part 3 paid separately to the Clean Spa. Admission to the facility Y200. Entering the pool area Y300, entering the sento area with outside rotemburo Y500 (excluding tax).
If you arrive for Part 1 after we have left Barakinayama Station, just walk to the Edogawa River (asking locals for directions as you go) and look for us on the Chiba side by the water line heading toward the mouth with Tokyo Bay. We should be easy to spot from the top of the levy. Also, call my cell phone[masked] if there are any problems finding us.
Transportation: The Ichikawa Clean Spa is about 0.5km from the BBQ location and they provide shuttle services to several nearby train stations, so guests can arrive at Parts 2 and 3 via these shuttles as well as return by them. Barakinakayama (Tozeai Line) and Ichikawa Shiohama (Keiyo Line) are both about 3.5km away on foot from the BBQ location.
In the event of any significant rain this event will be cancelled. We’ll post a notice on the top of this announcement as well early on the morning of the event if there are any doubts about the weather.
If going directly to the BBQ, Clean Spa shuttle buses depart as follows:
Barakinayama Station (Tozai Line), East Exit, at 12:09, 13:09, 14:09, 14:39, 15:09, 15:39, 16:09 and arrive at the Clean Spa 11 minutes later.
Gyotoku Station (Tozai Line), in front of Mizuho Bank at 11:35, 12:05, 13:05, 14:05, 15:05, 16:05 and arrive 15 min. later at the Clean Spa.
Ichikawa Shiohama Statin (Keiyo Line), in front of Police Station (2 min. from ticket gate) at 11:17, 12:47, 13:47, 14:47, 15:47, 16:47 and arrive at the Clean Spa 33 min. later.
We’ll have a full schedule for return shuttle buses at the event.
Note: If you will use these shuttle service, technically guests are supposed to be a customer of the Clean Spa, but this can be done for Y200 by buying a ticket, entering, maybe using the restroom, and exiting. Or maybe just briefly waiting in the lobby before heading to the BBQ location. I doubt anyone will say anything but at most it would be a Y200 purchase to be a guest of the Clean Spa.
Clean Spa system: Y200 tickets are purchased from a machine in the lobby. After putting shoes in a small locker, you enter the actual facility by swiping your ticket and presenting it and the shoe key to the receptionist. Upon leaving (even if minutes later after using the restroom or having a vending machine drink) you will receive your shoe key back from the receptionist with a receipt for the Y200. At that point, with receipt in hand, you have the right to use their shuttle buses, particularly on the return trip. However, I doubt anything will be said to anyone coming in and out of the lobby, whether actually entering the facility or not.
Recommended ware: A hat and long sleeve shirt (for the sun), long pants (for occasional patches of high grass), gloves and good walking shoes or boots (preferably older ones that may get dirty). We will provide the trash bags.
