OKUTAMA HIKING BIG EVENT!

(Cancelled in case of rain)

Part 1

The first part is an intermediate four hour hike.

Course: Kawai Station – Mt. Iwatakeishi – Mt. Takamizu- Ikusabata Station

Meeting Place/Time: Kawai Station Ticket Gate at 8:50AM

We meet at Kawai Station at 8:50AM. Take the 7:07AM Chuo Line Express train from Shinjuku Station. This arrives at Tachikawa Station at 7:43AM. Change there to the 7:51 Ome Line train. Take this to the end (Ome Station), arriving there at 8:24AM and go across the platform and take the 8:26AM train towards Okutama. This train arrives at Kawai Station at 8:49AM. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train. From here, we do a 4 hour hike to Ikusabata Station. We will meet other people there at 1:02PM for the following river hike.

David will get on the Oume Line train at Haijima Station at 8:06.

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Part 2

A refreshing walk along the river in Okutama viewing the fall colors!

Meeting Place and Time: The ticket gate of Ikusabata Station (on the Ome Line) at 13:05PM
(For those going there from Tachikawa, board the 12:15PM train going to Oume. This arrives in Oume at 12:46. Change in Oume to the 12:51 train going to Okutama and get off at Ikusabata at 13:02PM.)

Take a walk along the river and see the fall colors. An easy hike especially for children!
Bring a lunch and liquids.

Nori’s Hike and Game

Meeting time & place:  10:35AM    Kounanndai Station’s JR,Negishi line ticket gate

Shinagawa Station 09:48am Keikyu line – Yokohama (arriving at 10:06) and change to the Negishi Line (leaving Yokohama at 10:12) – Kounandai Station (arriving at 10:34)
        
Please wear good shoes for about a 3 hour walk and bring some food and drink. 

The donation will be donated to the people who live in the Tohoku area affected by the earthquake.         

Kounanndai → Segami Community Woods →Segami pond→ Momiji bridge→ Itachi river→ Hongoudai sta.→ Earth plaza

14;00 ~17:00 Earth Plaza Team Game.  In an information forum (4 desks and 30 chairs), we will do a Japanese version of the “Trade Game,” originally made by the U.K. NGO “Chistian Aid.” The materials give us an understanding of the North-South unequal structure. We make a product from resources and experience its development process, with members expressing their different opinions through the simulation activities of selling and buying. After the game, we will talk about the trade friction problem. (In Japanese and English)

Generosity – The Basis of Wealth

It is a fact of economics that the basis of wealth is generosity. Today the wealth of the modern nations comes from three main sources: 1) The generosity of hard work, self-sacrifice, and inventiveness of the former generations; 2) the generosity of older, gentler nations, from whose Asian, African, and American lands enormous wealth was exploited by western and recently westernized entrepreneurs; 3) the generosity of the earth herself, with the sun, the oceans, and the winds. Hakone Autumn Colors Hiking

(Cancelled in case of rain)

Hiking up a mountain to 924 meters and along a ridge to the Hakone Yumoto area. Views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashinoko, Temples, and a lot of Japanese Pompass Grass

Hiking Course: Gora Station (by the interesting, scenic old train) – Myojogatake – Touno Mine – Hakone Yumoto

This course is about 5.5 hours of walking.

From Shinjuku Station, take the 7:50AM Odakyu Line Express, which arrives in Odawara at 9:27AM. From there, get on the Hakone Tetsudo (old scenic train), arriving at Hakone Yumoto at 9:48. Change there, to another Hakone Tetsudo train going to Goura, leaving at 9:51 and arriving at Goura at 10:33AM. Please don’t miss these trains.

If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 7:50 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara). Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

As we will go to a hot springs after the hike, please bring a change of clothes and a towel!

Int’l Friendship Sushi Party

From 6:30-9:30pm at the Polygon (behind the Oriental Bazaar on Omotesando)

For JAMBO members, the cost is 3,500 yen for men and 3,000 yen for women w/reservation (or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). All beer, wine, cocktails, sot drinks + sushi buffet, garden salad, veggies, cheeses, breads, and pies for dessert included. Reservations can be made with David at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp or phone (03-6599-8112) by November 11.   A quarter of your admission fee will be donated to Tikondane (ZAMBIA) http://www.tikondane.org/ – This is a place educating nurses and teaching literacy. There are also various income generating activities such as the garden and skill training initiatives, as well as important community development work. Tikondane is a gem for the tourist interested in finding the real Africa. Another quarter will go to Joest Mnemba(a person who has a wonderful reforestation project in Malawi, a very scenic country in Southeastern Africa).

So you can have an enjoyable evening and help a good cause at the same time. If you’d like to go with David, please meet at Exit A1 of Omotesando Station at 6:15PM on the 12th.

Volunteer Experience

Path Making at the Tama Zoo – (Cancelled in case of rain)

Meet at 9:25AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s station (TamaDobutsukoen).

Take the 8:40AM Keio Line express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:15AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:18 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:22AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by November 2 so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.
