Come and welcome JAMBO’s intern, Kijin Higashibaba, coming in from Ohio (USA) for 2-3 months. Kijin is keen on meeting people, learning Japanese, and helping to improve JAMBO’s appeal. Should be a great time!

Hydrangea Park & Akigawa Hike & Swim!

(1000 yen Participation Fee + 600 yen for Ajisai Park)

(Bring your own beverages and lunch box)

Meet at the ticket gate of Akigawa Station (on the Itsukaichi Line) at 9:58AM.  
From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line (Special Express going towards Takao) at 8:54, arriving at Kokubunji Station at 9:14AM.  Change to the 9:16 JR Chuo Line train (going towards Oume), and take it to Haijima (arriving at 9:36). Change in Haijima to the JR Itsukaichi Line, leaving Haijima at 9:46 and arriving at Akigawa Station at 9:55.
David will get on the front of the Itsukaichi Line train at Haijima at 9:46AM.

Course: Akigawa Station – SummerLand Family Park’s Hydrangea Park – Akigawa Hill Course – Mt. Benten – MusashiItsukaichi Station

We’ll look for swimming places along the river so, if you want to swim, please bring your swimsuit.

Kiba Fun-in-the-Park Farewell Party!

This is a farewell party for long time JAMBO supporter and Greenheart Director Pat Utley, who will be leaving Japan to live on a yacht sailing the seas. Let’s send him off with a BANG!

Meeting Place and Time: Exit 3 of Kiba Station (on the Tozai Line) at 5:00PM – We will stop at a convenient store on the way to the park to buy food/drinks.

Odawara Historical Walk & Castle Hydrongea and Iris Festival & Beach Clean Up! 

We will meet at the Odakyu Line West Exit at Odawara at 10:50 AM.

9:11  Depart Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line (Express going towards Odawara) and get off at Odawara (arriving at 10:47). 
If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 9:11 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara).

The walking time will be about 4 hours.
After the hike, from 2:30 – 4:30PM, we will do a garbage clean-up on the beach and have some beach fun. Sakawa Beach is infamous for having a lot of garbage, so we’ll have a lot to pick up.

Ebisu International Party

Time/Place:  6:30-9:00pm at Ebisu 7 (Map is at http://www.kokusaika.org/english/ebisu.html)

For JAMBO members, the cost is Y3,000 for men and 2,000 for women w/reservation (less 500 yen for foreigners, or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). Large international party with bottled beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks (all you can drink) and food buffet.

Half of your admission fee will be donated to Plant With Purpose.
 
So you can have an enjoyable evening and help a good cause at the same time.

Chichibu HIKING (Mt. Kinsho)

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.
 
We will have a 4.5 hour hike that takes us up 2 low mountains and around a big lake (Tsuburada Lake).
 
Course:  Yorii Station – Mt. Kinsho – Taisho Pond – Mt. Kanetsukido – Tsuburada Lake – Mt. Rakan – Yorii Station
 
From Ikebukuro, take the  Tobu Tojo (Express) Line’s 9:30AM train and get off at Ogawamachi Station, arriving at 10:38AM. Change here to the local train going the same direction towards Yorii, getting on the 10:42 train which arrives at Yorii Station at 10:57AM. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.
 
People going from Ikebukuro Station can meet at the front car of the Tobu Tojo Line train at 9:30, or meet at Yorii’s ticket gate at 11:00.

Mexican Cooking Event! (SOLD OUT)

Learn how to make and cook fresh homemade corn tortilla tacos and easy-to-cook Mexican dishes!

Yuujo Waterfall Hiking (Tanzawa)

Please bring your lunch and drink! (There are no stores near the station)
 
Meet at the ticket gate of Surugaoyama Station on the Gotemba Line at 11:05AM.

>From Shinjuku, take the 9:01 express Odakyuu Line train (going towards Odawara) to Shin-Matsuda (arriving at 10:24AM). Walk to Matsuda Station (which has the JR Gotemba Line) and get on the 10:43 train. This train arrives at Surugaoyama at 11:04 AM.
(DEFINITELY get on this train because we can’t wait for the next one since they are infrequent.)
 
If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 9:01 Odakyu Line express train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara).

We will hike from the station to the Yuujo Waterfall, then to the Ashigara Pass, and return to Ashigara Station (on the Gotemba Line). The hiking time itself is about 4 hours.

Arakawa Parks Walk and Rose Festival (mostly English)

Meeting Place and Time: Kumanomae (Toneri Liner, one stop from Nishi Nippori) Ticket Gate at 13:00.

The program is ¥1000 and includes explanations of plants along the way in English. Everyone is requested to use English only for the first hour. After that, people may speak in their preferred language, but David will use only English during the walk for the first 2 hours. David will teach some English jokes in the first park.

13:00 – 13:30 – Walk to Ogunohara Park (and stop at a Convenience Store to buy food/drink (English Only Please)
13:30 – 14:00 –  Short English Jokes Fun
14:00 – 15:00 – Walk to Arakawa Nature Park

16:00 – Enjoy the Rose Festival near Machiya Station
