Chichibu Pilgrimage and Muse Park Hiking & Fall Colors

Meeting Time & Place: 10:35AM at Seibu Chichibu Station’s ticket gate

Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Express train from Ikebukuro Station at 8:50AM.  This arrives at Hanno Station (the final destination) at 9:37AM.  Change here to the Seibu Chichibu Line (which leaves at 9:43) and get off at Seibu Chichibu Station (the last stop) (arriving at 10:32AM).

David will meet people who want to ride together at the front of the Hanno Station platform at 9:40.

Hiking Course:  SeibuChichibu Station – 3 shrines on the pilgrimage path – Muse Park (with a spring and observation tower) – Music Shrine – Seibu Chichibu Station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Odawara – West Hills Hiking & FULL MOON BEACH PARTY!

(Participation Fee 1000 yen + 200 yen (Tropical Dome at the Flower Garden))

We will meet at the IzuHakoneDaiyuuzan Line’s Iidaoka Station Ticket Gate at 11:00 AM.

9:01  Depart Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line (Express going towards Odawara) and get off at Odawara (arriving at 10:34).  Change to the 10:48 IzuHakoneDaiyuuzan train going towards Daiyuuzan.  This arrives at Iidaoka Station at 10:58.

David will be waiting at Odawara Station’s ticket gate at 10:37.

Course:  Odawara Station – Odawara Flower Garden – Ikoi Forest – Wanpaku Park (we’ll stay 1 hour with many fun things to do there) – Odawara Castle Park – Odawara Beach (We hope to arrive at around 17:30 and eat, drink, and have fun there while looking at the full moon) – Odawara Station

The total walking time for the hike will be about 4 hours.

Shibuya Halloween!

Join us for the world famous Shibuya Halloween Event. Wear a costume and take a walk around the crazy-filled streets of Shibuya. Since it is SO CROWDED, we will meet about 5 minutes away from the station, in front of BIC Camera

Tama Nature Hiking Course

 

(1000 yen Participation Fee) (Easy Course)(Canceled in case of big rain)

Enjoy walking in the parks and green paths in the Tama area!

Meet at the Keio Line’s TamaSakai Station’s ticket gate at 10:55AM.

Take the Keio Super Express (going towards Hashimoto) from Shinjuku Station at 10:12AM and change to the Keio (Sagamihara) Express  (going towards Hashimoto) at Keio Tama Centre (arriving at 10:42 and departing at 10:46).  Take this to TamaSakai, arriving at 10:53.

If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, David and others will be on the front of the 10:09 Keio Line train at Shinjuku Station.

Course: TamaSakai Station – Oyamadairi Park – One Green Path – Nagaike Park – Minami Oosawa (with it’s Spanish building atmosphere) – Minami Oosawa Station  It’s a fairly easy 3.5 hour hike with a lot of greenery.

Kasai Area Walk (in English)

(EASY)(¥1000 Participation Fee (Children free)) (Canceled in case of rain)(in English)

The program is ¥1000 and everyone is requested to use English only for the first hour.  After that, people may speak in their preferred language, but David will use only English during the walk for the first 2 hours.

Meeting Place/Time: Kasai Station (Tozai Line) Ticket Gate at 13:30

Course:

13:30 – 14:00 – Walk to Recreation Park Flower (Roses) Garden and spend half an hour there

14:30 – 15:00 – Take a green road to Shinsui Park Pond

15:00 – 15:30 – English Fun (TOPIC: Freaky Plants)

15:30 – 16:30 – Walk along the RinkaiCho Green Path to Kasai Rinkai Park

16:30 – 17:30 – See the large Cosmos Field, park fun and Sayonara Sunset

Chichibu Hiking & Kawagoe Festival

(Participation Fee – 1000 yen) (Intermediate)

Meet at the Seibu Chichibu Line’s Agano Station’s Ticket Gate at 10:10. From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line’s Express train at 8:50 to Hanno (arriving at Hanno at 9:37) and change here for the Seibu Chichibu Line’s train, leaving Hanno at 9:43. This train arrives at Agano Station at 10:08.  Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

People going from Ikebukuro Station can meet in the front car of the Seibu Ikebukuro Line train  at 8:50. David will meet people on the front of the Hanno Station platform at 9:40.

The hike will be Agano Station – Maesaka – Mt. Ootaka – Mt. Tenkaku – Higashi Agano Station.

The hiking time is about 4  hours.

After the hike, we will go to the famous Kawagoe Festival in Kawagoe.  Whether the hike is on or not (due to rain), we plan to meet at the ticket gate of HonKawagoe at 17:05. In case of rain, confirmation that the festival is not canceled will be made and a message will be uploaded on Twitter.

Kamakura – Oofuna Hiking and Home Party! & Disaster Drill (Separate programs)

We will meet at the East ticket gate of Kamakura Station at 9:45AM .

You can get on the JR Shonan Shinjuku Line (going towards Zushi) at Yokohama Station at 9:18, arriving in Kamakura at 9:41AM

Hiking Course – Kamakura Station – Zuisenji Temple – Tenen Hiking Course – Mt Rokkokenzan – Takanodai – Oofuna Goddess of Mercy Statue – – Oofuna Station

After the hike, those who want to go are invited to a friend’s party in a wonderful place on the 11th floor overlooking the Tsurumi River.  For those not going on the hike but wanting to go to the party, please meet us at the Tsurumi Station (on the Keihin Tohoku Line) ticket gate at 17:00.

The party fee is 500 yen for BBQ goods, and you can buy other food/drinks on the way to the party.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area earthquakes occur frequently and global warming can cause rainstorms and floods. It is necessary for residents in Japan to participate in disaster drills against such events. Language Volunteer Co-talk (LVC) encourages you to participate in the disaster drill to learn how to act safely in the event of disasters.

Realistic Experiences

The training includes realistic disaster experiences using simulators.

1. Earthquake simulation

You can experience an earthquake with an intensity of up to seven on the Japanese seismic intensity scale. 2. Urban flooding experience

Evacuation in torrential rain can be difficult. You can experience the phenomenon of basement doors that won’t open due to the pressure of floodwater and the situation of being trapped in a submerged car. 3. Storm simulation

You can experience a powerful storm of typhoon force.

Environmental Project

Environmental Project Volunteering at Tama Zoo –  Cutting down bamboo grass, Repairing/making hiking course stairs

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain)  9:30AM – 2:30PM

Cost: FREE

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by October 5 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.
