Course:  Mogusaen Station (Keio Line) – Nanao Hills Hiking Course  – Mogusaen(Plum Tree Park and Festival) – Takahatafudo Station or Tama DobutsuKoen Station

Walking Time: About 4 Hours (10KM)

From Shinjuku, take the Keio Line (Special Express) train at 9:40AM  and get off at Fuchuu Station at 10:00. Change to the Keio Line Local train, leaving at 10:04 and arriving at Mogusaen Station at 10:12. We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 10:15AM

People going from Shinjuku Station can meet at the front end of the 9:40 train.

There are 500 Plum trees in Mogusaen Park with white, pink and mixed flowers:

Environmental Project

 

Environmental Project Volunteering at Tama Zoo –

Maintaining the grounds around Dragonfly Pond and Insect Park

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain)  9:30AM – 2:30PM

Cost: FREE

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by February 9 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Ebisu International Valentine’s SushiParty

Reservations needed

Time/Place:  6:30-9:00pm at Ebisu 7 (Map is at http://www.kokusaika.org/english/ebisu.html)

For JAMBO members, the cost is Y3,500 for men and 3,000 for women w/reservation (less 500 yen for foreigners, or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). Large international party with bottled beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks (all you can drink) and sushi buffet.

Tama Green Course Walk

Tokyo/Kanagawa City Exploratory Green Course Walk (Easy)

Course:  Machida Station – Sagami Green Area – Komorebi Woods (Lunch) – Oowa Pedestrian Walkway  – Minami Rinkan Station (Odakyuu Line)

We go through residential areas, fields and woods.  There’s some walking on roads but mostly on designed city walking paths.

Walking Time: About 3 Hours (10KM) plus a lot of time for fun, so the hike should take about 5 hours.

From Shinjuku, take the Odakyu Express train (going towards Fujisawa) at 10:29AM  and get off at Machida Station, arriving at 10:59AM. We’ll meet at the Machida Station’s (Odakyuu Line) South ticket gate at 11:00AM.

Okutama Hiking

(Bring your own beverages and lunch box)

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:55AM.  From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Holiday Special Express going towards Okutama at 8:19. This goes all the way to Okutama Station, arriving at 9:54AM (but be sure to get on the right part of the train which goes to Okutama, and beware that the platform may not be the regular Chuo Line Platform at Shinjuku (probably leaves from platform #7).  Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

David will get on the front car of this train at Haijima (at 9:04).

The hike will be Okutama Station – Anjizawa – Mt. Honita – Mt. Kobutaka –  Oneyama Shrine – Hatonosu Station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise or tracking shoes to avoid  injury.

Wearing sandals is not permitted.

Learn how to cook Pho and easy-to-cook Vietnamese dishes!

Join us, if you like cooking – and it’s OK only to eat as well (if you don’t care to cook).

Mt. Nokogiri & Daffodil Road

Fee: 1000 yen participation fee + 600 yen Nokogiri Entrance Fee

From Chiba Station, take the Uchibo Line at 9:04AM. This arrives at Hamakanaya Station at 10:29. Definitely make this train as the trains are very infrequent! The transport fee is 1150 yen one way from Chiba to Hamakanaya.

If you want to ride with others, get on the front car of the train at Chiba Station. David will get on that train at Soga at 9:13.

Walking time: About 5 hours Course: Hamakanaya Station – Mountain Peak (Temple’s Gate) – Lookout point, Sengen Shrine – Hyakushaku Kannon – Jigoku Nozoki (Peeping into hell)- Stone Buddha – Daffodil Fields – JR Hota Station

Features: A wonderful view of Tokyo Bay from the top; 1500 Rakans; the Giant Buddha Stone Statue, “Peeping into Hell”

Near Hota Station, we will walk through the daffodil fields and enjoy their heavenly scent – a wonderful experience!

Tea Ceremony Event

(¥1500 Participation Fee) (in English)

The donation will be given to Riasunomori – an organization in Ishinomaki which works for community development.

The program is ¥1500 (children ¥500) and everyone is requested to speak English. David will speak only English during the event.

Time/Place: 17:30 – 18:30 in a tea ceremony room, near Omori Station

We will serve tea and sweets.

Experience the culture of tea.

A teacher will demonstrate tea ceremony.

It is not necessary to take a seiza position.
