Environmental Project Volunteering at Tama Zoo

Cutting down bamboo grass & old trees
(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain) 9:30AM – 2:30PM

Cost: 500 yen for insurance

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).
Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by May 5 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

OKUTAMA HIKING

We meet at Miyanohira Station at 10:50AM. Take the 9:26AM Chuo Line train (going towards Hachiouji), get off at Tachikawa (arriving 10:01) and hurry to the Oume line (10:05 departure). Take this to the last stop (Oume, arriving at 10:39) and cross the platform to the Okutama bound Oume line train, leaving at 10:40. This arrives at Miyanohira Station at 10:43

Course: Miyanohira Station – Tengu Rock (Beautiful Views) – KyuuNittsuka Pass -Oume Station

The course should take about 5 hours.
 
Meet on the front of the 9:26 Chuo Line train at Shinjuku if you want to go from there there. David will get on the first car of the same train at Nakano Station.
 
Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Mt. Tsukuba Hiking & Party

(In case of rain, the hike is canceled but we go to the party, meeting at Yashio Station at 17:00)

Please bring your lunch and drinks.

Meeting Time & Place: 8:47AM at Tsukuba Station’s ticket gate
Take the Tsukuba Express Train at Kita Senju at 8:11AM.  This arrives at Tsukuba (the final destination) at 8:45AM and costs 1,030 yen.
 
People going from Kita Senju  Station can meet in the front car of the of the Tsukuba Express Line to start at 8:11. 
 
We will take the 9:00 bus from Tsukuba Station to TsukubaJinjaIriguchi (36 minutes, 720 yen), and hike up Mt. Tsukuba (877M・altitude difference 610M).  The hiking time is about 5  hours. The Azaleas should be BEAUTIFUL!!!
 
After that, we hope to take the 16:30 train from Tsukuba to Yashio (on the Tsukuba Line, arriving at 17:07) and go to Herman’s (a Canadian Friend) nice place for a fun-filled party. People who only want to go to the party should meet at Yashio Station’s ticket gate at 17:08.

BYO Party in a nice house, where David’s friend Herman lives (Togasaki 3119-2, Misato-Shi, Saitama 341-0044). We will have a lot of fun there. Party fee – 500 yen (for order-out pizza).
Please bring whatever snacks and drinks you want. We can buy food and drink near Herman’s house. Latecomers can call Herman at 080-4140-6470.

Kinuta Park, Tama River, Todoroki Gorge HIKE

Please bring your own food and drink.
Meet at 12:00 at the Youga station (on the Toukyuu Denentoshi Line) ticket gate.

From Shibuya, take the 11:42AM Toukyuu Denentoshi Line train to Youga (arriving at 11:56).

COURSE: Youga Station – Kinuta Park (Picnic)-Tama River – Todoroki Gorge – Todoroki Station

Walking time: about 3 hours

Mt. Ougi Hiking (Chuo Line)

Meeting Place/Time: Torisawa Station Ticket Gate at 10:18AM

Course: JR Torisawa Station – Mt. Ougi (1138M) – Mt. Okubo (1109M) – JR Torisawa Station 

The top of Mt. Ougi is very spacious with a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji.
Hiking time: about 5 hours

You can do various simulations with solutions offered by volunteer guides.

 On the way, we will stop at a supermarket to shop for lunch stuff, and have lunch at the facility.
We plan to finish up at 5:00PM.

Those who want to rent bicycles will meet at the Mitaka Station police box (at the bottom of the stairs of the South Exit) at 9:30. Mr. Konno and David will be waiting there and take you to the bicycle rental shop (300 yen for the day for 1 bicycle). Please DO NOT BE LATE since bicycles are liimited.

If you have your own bycles, please meet at the Mitaka Station South Exit police box at 10:00. After the explanation of the course, we will take off at around 10:30AM.

Those who come late can meet us at the Ocean Traffic Safely Research Center at 12:30 (when we plan to be there). From Mitaka Station, it takes about 10 minutes by bus or by bicycle.

Please bring food and drink (or you can buy at the supermarket), a ground sheet, any “toys” (frisbees, balls, etc.)

We recommend wearing helmuts for those coming by bicycle.

Ebisu International Party

Reservations needed

Time/Place:  6:30-9:00pm at Ebisu 7 (Map is at http://www.kokusaika.org/english/ebisu.html)

For JAMBO members, the cost is Y2,500 for men and 2,000 for women w/reservation (less 500 yen for foreigners, or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). Large international party with bottled beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks (all you can drink) and food buffet.

Half of your admission fee will be donated to Arakawa Clean Aid.
 
So you can have an enjoyable evening and help a good cause at the same time.

If you’d like to go with David, please meet at the Hibiya Line’s Ebisu Station (Exit # 1) at 6:22PM on the 16th.

Naguri ko / Bouno Oreyama waterfalls hike

(Option to go to onsen at the end – Y800. Bring a towel if you want to go.)
(Cancelled in case of rain) (Intermediate 9.5km Course; quite steep and crossing a stream several times)

Bring your own beverages and food for lunch. There’s a bakery at the entrance to Hanno station (but not much time so be quick!).
Meeting Place/Time: 10:08AM at Hanno station ticket gate (west side for bus stop) (Seibu Ikebukuro Line). Make sure to arrive by this time (or before) as we cannot wait for the next train.
Then 10.18 Bus to Naguri ko (45min, ¥620)
Hiking route: Naguriko shore line – climb up through the forest following a lovely stream with many small waterfalls – up to Bouno Oreyama summit (969m) – descend to Ryusenji (onsen).
Walking Time: 5 Hours 

Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise shoes or hiking boots to avoid your injury.

CANCELED – Planning for making a children’s restaurant & JAMBO Open House

This program is CANCELED because the organizer (Munemi) suddenly got kidney stones and cannot come. We will plan it again in May. However, David will be at the JAMBO School at 7:00 for anyone who wants to have an informal get-together.

19:00- Come meet others planning/interested in setting up a restaurant (around Oomiya) for single parent children or others who need more care, and share ideas.
