Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Meeting Place/Time: Ashigakubo Station ticket gate 10:00

From Ikebukuro Station, take the 8:20 Seibu Ikebukuro express going towards Hanno, and get off at Hanno Station, arriving there at 9:16AM.   Change there to the 9:19 train (going towards Chichibu) and get off at Ashigakubo (arriving at 9:59). Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.
 
Course (from Ashigakubo Station): Mt. Futago – Yakiyama – Mt. Futago –  Ashigakuboo Station

Halloween Walk in Yamate Western-style Houses

(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of stormy weather)

The Yamate area of Yokohama is known for its Western-style houses, remnants of the time when the area was an enclave for Westerners. Each house is bedecked with Halloween decorations to make buildings have fantastic atmosphere.

☆Meeting Time/Place: 10:00 JR Keihin-Tohoku Line Ishikawacho Station Motomachi Exit

☆Course: Ishikawacho Station → The Home of a Diplomat → Bluff No.18 → Berrick Hall → Ehrismann Residence → Bluff No.234 → British House Yokohama → Bluff No.111 → Motomachi-chukagai Station
Walking & sightseeing time: About 3 hours (3km).

1) Koto Ward Double Hike & Kiba Festival

(Easy, FREE・Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Time/Place: 11:30AM at Toyocho Station (Tozai Line) Exit 4 or 3:15PM at Kiba Station (Tozai Line) Exit 3 (at the street level)

Course: Toyocho Station – Yokojukken Water Park (canal walk) – Sarue Park – Kiba Park (Central Koto Festival) 1:00 – 3:00 – Kiba Station – Canal Walk – BotanCho Park – Echujima Park (on the Sumida River) Aomibashi Park – Toyosu Park (See the sunset on Tokyo Bay?) – Toyosu Station
 
Walking Time: About 4 Hours (12KM) The morning walk is about 1.5 hours and the afternoon is about 2.5 hours. At the end of the afternoon walk, we can play frisbee, eat and drink in the park while watching the sunset on Tokyo Bay.

We are also looking for volunteers to help at the LVC (Language Volunteer Koto-ku) booth at the festival between 1:00 and 3:00PM. Volunteers can stay a short time (like 20 minutes) or longer (1-2 hours). They will do English card (vocabulary) games with passers by, or simply talk with them about whatever topic they’d like. It’s a great chance to meet some Japanese people who would like to speak with you in English, talk about yourself (your country, etc) and it would help out a wonderful volunteer group (LVC). Please let David (jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) know if you would like to help out.

Relaxing riverside: 16:30-17:00
Return to station by Car: 17:00-17:15

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at BARAKINAKAYAMA Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00 and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER
Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of the members who do not go home directly.

OPTIONAL SWIMMING
The Ichikawa Clean Spa with swimming pool (jacuzzis), and sento with rotemburo is only 5 min. away on foot. For those interested in finishing their day with a swim or hot bath (bring swim ware and cap, Y500 admission to pool + Y600 if entering sento/rotemburo area)

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call my cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Miura Peninsula (Mt. Futago) Hiking & FULL MOON PARTY

(Intermediate Course) (1000 yen Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of rain) 

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

A 5 hour hike in the Zushi area, with evergreen forests, and going up Mt. Futago. We will meet at Hagashi Zushi Station’s (on the Yokosuka Line) ticket gate at 10:42AM.
 
From Yokohama, take the 9:57 JR Yokosuka Line (going towards Zushi) to Zushi, arriving there at 10:31. Change to the 10:37 Yokosuka Line (going towards Kurihama), arriving at Higashi Zushi at 10:40.
 
We will finish the hike on Tokyo Bay at Verny Park, where we’ll have a full moon party (You can buy food and drinks at a nearby store).

COURSE: Higashi Sushi Station – Mt. Futago – Taura Plum Park – Tsukayama Park – Verny Park – Yokosuka Station

Distance: about 14KM
Elevation Gain: about 200 meters

Please bring your lunch and drink.
Please don’t forget to have your rucksack and exercise or treking shoes!
Meet at the ticket gate of Ashigara Station on the Gotemba Line at 9:55AM.
From Shinjuku, take the 7:50 express Odakyuu Line train going towards Odawara. In ShinMatsuda (arriving at 9:16), walk to Matsuda Station (4 minutes) and switch to the 9:26 Gotemba Line train going towards Gotemba. This train arrives in Ashigara at 9:51AM. (DEFINITELY get on this train because we can’t wait for the next one since they are infrequent.)
(BE CAREFUL – this is Ashigara (Shizuoka), not Ashigara (Kanagawa), which is a different station)
We will hike from the station to Mt. Kintoki (1212 Meters). There are many shrines, temples, and a 360 degree panoramic view from the top, with a great view of Mt. Fuji. The hiking time itself is about 5.5 – 6 hours.

2) Arakawa River Clean Up at NISHI KASAI
Gather at Nishi Kasai Station: 13:00
Go to the river by car 13:10

Return to station by Car: 17:00-17:15

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on Nakagawa Island (under the C2 highway) at the waterline near the Tozai Line bridge. Note: That you must access the Nakagawa island from the Kasaibashi Bridge. There is no access from the road bridge next to the Tozai Line. HIKING at Sagamiko Lake & Takao Beer Garden

In case of hard rain, we will meet at Takasanguchi Station at 3:00PM to go to the beer garden

We will hike from Sagami Lake to Mt. Takao (about a 4 hour hike and hit the Mt. Takao Beer Garden at about 3:30PM. (3800 yen for men and 3600 yen for women – all you can eat and drink for 2 hours)

Environmental Project at Tama Zoo

The main types of work are cutting down weeds and bamboo grass, cutting down old trees, making paths or sometimes keeping track of the various species in the area.

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain) 9:30AM – 3:00PM

Cost: FREE

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).
Take the 8:43AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:24 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by September 19 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.
