• What we’ll do
Part 1 River Clean Up
We will gather at Minami Sunamachi Station (Exit A3) at 12:00noon. At about 12:10 we will walk about 10-12 minutes to the Arakawa River, and from about 12:30 we will begin picking up trash along the river bank heading in the direction of Tokyo Bay. Then, we will return to the bridge area for a picnic and a some play, e.g., frisbee, tossing some balls, etc.
Part 2 Picnic
From about 3:30 we will set up our picnic area and from about 4:00pm have an early dinner picnic next to the river while the sun is still out. All food and drinks will be provided for the picnic. Admission Y1,000 to cover the cost of food and drinks ( or Y1,500 for people drinking beer, wine or chuhai). We should finish up between 5:00pm and 5:30pm.
• What to bring
Gloves and appropriate shoes and clothing for the weather, generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
• Important to know
Please have an early lunch at 11:00am. or 11:30a.m. before the meeting time, and then you should be ready for the early dinner picnic from 4:00pm while the sun is still up. Let’s have fun enjoying our local nature while making it better at the same time. From Shinbashi Station, take the 9:12 Tokaido Line Rapid train (going towards Atami) to Kouzu Station, arriving at 10:18.

From Soga Plum Park, there should be good views of Mt. Fuji if the weather permits and the plum trees (35,000 of them) should be near their peak.
The hiking time itself is about 4 hours.
Please bring your lunch and drink.

From Shinjuku, take the Keio Line (Special Express) train at 9:40AM and get off at Chofu Station, arriving at 9:54AM. Change to the local train (going towards Takaosanguchi) leaving at 10:00. This arrives at HigashiFuchuu Station at 10:08. We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 10:10AM.

Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:28AM.
If you would like to participate, please inform David by February 8 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.
Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s 8:50AM train and get off at Hanno Station, arriving there at 9:37AM. Change to the Seibu Chichibu Line (across the platform), taking the 9:43 train. This arrives at Ashigakubo at 10:23. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.
People will meet at the front end of the train on the Seibu Chichibu Line platform at 9:40, or meet at Ashigakubo’s ticket gate at 10:25.
Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.
