Hike & Hot Springs in Hakone

Mt. Takanosu (834 meters)
 Please bring your food and drink.

We will meet at the gate of Hakoneyumoto station(Odakyu line) at 9:50 AM.
From Shinjuku Station, take the Odakyu Line (Express going towards Odawara) leaving at 7:50AM. This arrives at odawara at 9:30. Change to the Hakone Tozan Line, leaving at 9:32 and arriving at Hakoneyumoto station at 9:48AM
If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 7:50 Odakyu Line express train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car
at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara).
Please don’t be late since we MUST catch the 10:10AM bus going to Hatajuku (20 minutes, 380 yen).

Hike course: Hatajuku – Mt.Takanosu – Mt Sengen – Shiroyama – Hakoneyumoto
The total course time for the hike will be about four and a half hours.

Especially, the red and yellow (maples) leaves should be so wonderful.
As we will go to a Hot Springs after the hike,
please bring a change of clothes and a towel if you wish!
 
* Please wear trekking shoes (or exercise shoes).

SPECIAL!! FOREST PARK

Shinrin Koen – Hiking, Chrysanthemum Festival, Fall Colors Light Up (Participation Fee: 1000 yen, which includes the entrance fee)

We will meet at 10:27 AM at the ticket gate of Shinrin Koen Station on the Tobu

Tojo Line. If you go from Ikebukuro, take the 9:30 Tobu Tojo Line Express train (going towards Ogawamachi), which arrives at Shinrin Koen Station at 10:26AM. We will then take the 10:32 bus (200 yen, 7 minutes) to the park.

Those who wish to go together from Ikebukuro, please get on the front car of the Tobu Toujou 9:30 train there.

This is a huge, beautiful park in Saitama with wonderful gardens, woods, nature and bike paths, a frisbee golf course, etc. There’s also a Chysantemum Festival (exhibit) and Autumn Colors Light Up from 4:30PM. Should be a lot of fun!!!

Int’l Friendship Sushi Party

For JAMBO members, the cost is 3,000 yen for men and 3,000 yen for women w/reservation (or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). 

All beer, wine, cocktails, sot drinks + sushi buffet, garden salad, veggies, cheeses, breads, and pies for dessert included.

Half of your admission fee will be donated to Global Greengrants Fund, a group that provides grants for local environmental work in Africa, Asia and other poor areas (http://www.greengrants.org/). Meeting time/place: 10:35 AM Kounanndai Station of the JR Negishi line ticket gate
Leave Shinagawa Station on the 09:47am Keikyu line, arriving in Yokohama at 10:05. Transfer there to the 10:12 JR Negishi line train and go to Kounandai, arriving at 10:34

          Doing a well known game from the US – ” Wheel of fortune”
          You can guess idioms or country names when you see the pictures
          about African life, people, nature, the food for 1 week and so on.
          The worst team will have a penalty game.

If you’re only joining the party (not the hike), meet at the JR Tsurumi east exit ticket gate at 18:00

BYO Party in a large, 11F riverside apt. in Tsurumi, where David’s friend Clyde lives.
We will have a lot of fun there. Party fee – 500 yen (includes veggies, meat, fish for the BBQ).
Please bring whatever snacks and drinks you want. We can buy food and drink near Tsurumi Sta.

What is a school?

All of us have attended school at some time in our lives, and we tend to think of it as a place where we sit in a classroom and learn things. This can indeed be an important part of learning, but if we define school as “a place to learn,” our whole life experience and everywhere we go is a school.

I questioned what a school should be like when I started JAMBO School this month. Mostly, JAMBO School is an English school, teaching English conversation to adults in the classroom. However, just as important, it provides students with opportunities outside of the classroom to use their English. (more…)

Chichibu Hike & Cosmos/Chrysallis Flower Fields

Meet at the ticket gate of Koma Station at 10:13AM or at the front car of the 8:50 train at Ikebukuro.
From Ikebukuro Station, take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line train (express) at 9:05AM to Hanno Station (arriving at 10:01) and change there to the Seibu Chichibu Line (just across the platform), leaving at 10:04 .  This arrives at Koma station at 10:11.

Walking time – about 4 hours – Koma Station – Mt Bukken – Mt. Hiwada – Kinchakuda (fields of Cosmos & Chrysallis) – Alishan Organic Restaurant – Koma Station

This hike finishes off at Kinchakuda (a beautiful field of Cosmos & Chrysallis flowers) and you can eat at the Organic Natural food restaurant “Alishan” (where the people who camped out can leave their things).

Bring your lunch and plenty of liquids. 

Please don’t forget to bring a rucksack for your food/drinks and wear exercise shoes!
