Cutting down bamboo grass and cutting down old trees

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain)  9:30AM – 2:30PM

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:24 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by April 11 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Course: JR Torisawa Station – Mt. Ougi (1138M) – Mt. Okubo (1109M) – JR Torisawa Station

The top of Mt. Ougi is very spacious with a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji.

Hiking time: about 5 hours

Train Schedule

  • 8:26AM Leave Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line (special express going towards TakaoSanGuchi)
  • 9:18 Arrive at Takao Station
  • 9:24 Take the Chuo Line train (towards Kofu)
  • 9:52 Arrive at Torisawa Station

Meet on the front of the 9:47 Chuo Line train at Takao if you want to go together from there.

For JAMBO members, the cost is 1,500 yen  for men and 1000 yen for women w/reservation (or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation).  Foreigners get at 500 yen discount.  This includes the buffet! Drinks can be bought at Happy Hour prices.

Half of your admission fee will be donated to Tokyo River Friends. So you can have an enjoyable evening and help a good cause at the same time. If you’d like to go with David, please meet at Exit 3 of  Kamiyacho Station’s Hibiya Line at 7:00PM on the 9th.

<Meeting Place/Time> In front of of Shinjuku Center Building, Shinjuku Station West Exit at 8:00AM
★Make sure to be on time as we cannot wait for latecomers!
People will be taken to the bus as they arrive on that morning.
★The tour is expected to finish at 9:00PM (could be earlier or later depending on the traffic conditions) at the Shinjuku Center Building.

<Price> 8,000 yen per person (including 1000 yen for the Jambo charity of the month, lunch, transportation fee, and winery tour)

11:00 – 11:30  Walk around mysterious Mishaka Pond (Tateshina, Nagano Prefecture)
11:45  Arrive at Oku-tateshina’s Yokota Gorge
11:45  Lunch Time at Yokoya Japanese Inn Yurakuan
 (Nagano’s specialty – Shinshu Buckwheat noodles – Enjoy the Japanese course (Kaiseki Cooking)
13:00 – 14:30  Hike around Yokoya Gorge or go to Oku-Tateshina Hot Spring
14:30 – Leave Yokoya Gorge
15:50 – Tour of the Suntory Winery (Yamanashi Prefecture)
16:45 – Leave the winery and head back to Shinjuku (expected arrival 21:00)

<What to bring> Shoes that are easy to walk in (Sneakers or trekking shoes) and pocket money for buying something you may want.

<Notes>
●Be sure to always arrive at the assigned times during the trip.
●Anything you buy at shops, at the rest area, and drinks at lunchtime will be paid by you (not included in the price)
●Refunds will not be made for those canceling after April 1. If you must cancel suddenly after that due to an emergency, consult with Mr. Arakawa.
●For those wishing to go to the hot spring, please bring a towel and change of clothes. The cost for this will be incurred by the participant.

2)  Arakawa River Clean Up 

We will meet at NISHI KASAI Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate for exits 1 and 2 at 12:00noon., and then go to the Arakawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about 3 to 3.5 hours. Afterwards we go to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Recommended: Dress warm and rubber boots are recommended. Also wear generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

If you come late, walk to the river (about 20 min to our location) and look for us at the water line near the Tozai Line bridge. Also call James’ cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding the group.

This event will only be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Check this page or message me if any doubt.

Machida Area Cherry Blossom Walk/Festivals/Ohanami

(NEW!)

(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of heavy rain)

This course includes cherry tree lined rivers, several festivals, a large nature park, and finishes with an Ohanami party. People may leave anytime during the walk since we are always near stations. You can get food/drink at a supermarket on the way or at the festivals.

☆Meeting Time/Place: 12:35 Tsukushino Station (Tokyu DenenToshi Line) ticket gate (From Shibuya, take the 11:52 Tokyo DenenToshi Line express and get off at Nagatsuda Station (12:27 arrival) and change to the local (leaving at 12:31), arriving in Tsukushino at 12:33).

☆Course:  Tsukushino Station –  Ondagawa tree-lined river and several festivals – Mt. Kashinoki Nature Park – Serigaya Park Cherry Trees – Tamagawagakuen area cherry tree walk/viewing party – Tamagawagakuen-mae Station 

Walking&Sightseeing Time: 3 hours walking time (7km) and plenty of free time under the trees

Chidorigafuchi Wallk & Night Cherry Blossom Viewing

Meet at the Hanzomon Line’s Hanzomon Station (exit 3b) at 5:15 for the walk or in front of the Budokan at 6:15PM for the Ohanami Party.

Please bring some snacks/drinks.

If you come late, please go to the Kita no Maru Park which is past the Budokan on the left side.  If you can ‘t find us, please call me (080-6546-7688) and I’ll meet you at the clock just past the Budokan.

Miura Peninsula Hiking Course & Dusk Party in Yokosuka!

(Intermediate Course)(Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: KeikyuuNagasawa Station on the Keihin Kyuko (Keikyuu) Line at 11:10AM

From Shinagawa station, take the 10:08AM Keihin Kyuko Line train bound for Keikyuu Kurihama.  Get off at Keikyuu Kurihama station at 11:01 and change to the local train leaving at 11:02 going towards Misakiguchi. This arrives at KeikyuuNagasawa Station at 11:07.

Course: KeikyuuNagasawa Station – Kurihama Pagoda & Goddess of Mercy – Miura Mt. Fuji – Mt. Hod – Mt. Takeyama – Tsukuihama Beach walk – KeikyuuNagasawa Station

Mt. Takeyama  is the Miura Peninusula’s high point at 200 meters.  It has a panoramic view.  The hiking time is about 4 hours.

After the hike, those who want to go can join a Yokosuka coast dusk picnic and/or dinner and drinks.

Cherry Blossom Walk in Seijo Gakuen

Cherry blossoms on both sides of the river are reflected on the surface of the water, creating a gorgeous view.

☆Course:  Seijo-Gakuenmae Station – Seijo Line of Cherry Trees – Soshigaya Kannondo – Sengawa Line of Cherry Trees – Pond in Seijo Gakuen – Toho Studio – Ancient Tombs in Kunuta Junior High School – Roof Garden of Seijo Corty’s rooftop garden – Seijo-Gakuenmae Station 

Walking&Sightseeing Time: About 2 hours (5km).

Mt. KAGENOBU & TAKAO AREA PLUM BLOSSOM VIEWING HIKE

(Participation fee 1000 yen) (Moderately difficult course) (Cancelled in case of rain)

Bring your own beverages and food for lunch, also good hiking shoes, backpack.

Meeting Place/Time:  The ticket gate for Sagamiko Station on the Chuo Line at 10:25 AM.

Train:  Shinjuku Station (Keio Line Limited Express towards Hachioji) departing at 9:19 and arriving at Kitano at 9:58  Transfer at Kitano to the Keio-Takao Line departing at 9:58 and arriving at Takao Station at 10:08. Then change to the Chuo Line (going towards Otsuki), leaving at 10:13 and arriving at Sagamiko Station at 10:22.

Course:  Sagamiko Station – – Mt. Kagenobu – Kogesawa – Ura-takao Plum Orchard – Takao Station (JR/Keio Lines)

Walking time:  5.5 hours

Edogawa Garbage pick-up

We will meet at MYODEN Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 12:00noon., and then go to Edogawa River by car by and pick up trash along the banks for about 3 hours. Afterwards some members may go to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Recommended: Dress warm for the weather and wear generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Rubber boots or hiking shoes are recommended.

If you come late, walk to the river (about 12-15 min.) and look for us at the water line in the direction of Tokyo Bay. Also call Jame’s cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us. The park next to the Tozai line just before the river bank has a restroom.

This event will not be cancelled in the event of rain or only if very heavy rain as we can clean up under the bay-front bridges as well as move back and forth to the station by car). Please check the site or message me for details if any doubt.
