Ogawamachi Hike and Onsen

Meeting Time/Place: 10:18 at Tobu Takesawa Station ticket gate

We will have a 5 hour hike that takes us up 3 low mountains and next to a marsh.

Course: Tobu Takesawa Station – Mt. Kinsho (264m) – Tenno Marsh – Mt.Sekison (486m)-Ogawawamachi Station

From Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo (Rapid Express going towards Ogawamachi) Line’s 9:00AM train and get off at Ogawamachi Station, arriving at 10:04AM. Change here to the local train (going for Yorii ), getting on the 10:12 train which arrives at Tobu Takesawa Station at 10:16AM. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

As we will go to a Hot Springs in Ogawamachi after the hike, please bring a change of clothes if you’d like to join!

Akikawa Hiking

 Meet at the ticket gate of MusashiItsukaichi Station (the last stop of the Itsukaichi Line) at 10:30AM.   

 From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line (Special express going towards Oume) at 9:08, arriving at Haijima at 9:48.  Get off there and change to the 10:07 (JR Itsukaichi Line)  train and take this to MusashiItsukaichi (the last stop), arriving  at 10:26AM.

Course: MusashiItsukaichi Station – Mt. Konpira – HoshiTake Line -Mt. Shiroyama – Kougonji Temple – Akikawa River – MusashiItsukaichi Station

Walking Time: about 4 hours

Environmental Project at Tama Zoo

The main types of work are cutting down old trees, clearing out dead wood, and raking leaves.

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain)  9:30AM – 3:00PM

Cost: FREE

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Take the 8:43AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:24 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by February 6 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Meeting: Suruga-Oyama Station Ticket Gate 9:45

Train: Shinjuku (Odakyu line train going to Odawara) 7:50 – Shinmatsuda (arrives at 9:16) –   Matsuda Station (JR Gotemba Line – leaves at 9:26) –  Suruga-Oyama Station – 9:44 arrival

Please be sure to get on the right train, since we can’t wait for the next one.

Course: Suruga-Oyama station – Furounotaki waterfall – Furou-yama – Tani-ga-yama – Suruga-Oyama station.

Expected walking time: 6 hours

 

2) Arakawa River Clean Up

Gather at FUNABORI Station: 13:00

Go to the river 13:10

River Clean Up: 13:30-16:30

Relaxing riverside: 16:30-17:00

Return to station: 17:00-17:15

Nijikai Dinner (optional) at nearby restaurant: 17:30-18:30

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at FUNABORI Station (Shinjuku Line) outside the ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours to 3 and a half hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER (optional)

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather/daylight permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible and up to the members who want to stay for a nijikai.

MORNING SESSION (optional)

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 20-min walk to our location on the river at the waterline about 100 meters downstream from the Shinjuku Line bridge. Also call James’ cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and use rain ware and take coveras necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Arakawa River Clean Up

We will meet at Yahiro Station (Asakusa Line) outside the only ticket gate at 1:00pmn, and then walk to the river (about 6-7 min.) and pick up trash along the river bank for about 3 to 3.5 hours. Afterwards we will have a river side dinner picnic or go to a nearby restaurant for dinner (participants will decide based on weather, etc.)

Recommended: Wear appropriate clothes for the weather and generally older clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Rubber boots are optional for this clean up (some muddy places but participants can also stay on dry land).

If you come late, walk to the river (between the Route 6 bridge and the train line bridge) and look for us at the water line. Also call James’ cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

This event will only be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Check this page or message me if any doubt.

Tama “Abundance of Parks” Walk

(Easy)(Participation Fee 1000 yen)(Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place & Time: Tsudayama Station (Nanbu Line) at 11:45AM

Course:  Tsudayama Station (Nanbu Line) – Green Hill Cemetary – Higashi Takane Forest Park (Lunch) – Mukougaoka Yuuen Remains Park – Ikuta Green Area  -Mukougooka Yuuen Station (Odakyuu Line)

Nihon Minka-en (500 yen)

We go mostly through parks, but there’s also walking on roads.

Walking Time: About 3 Hours (8KM) plus a lot of time for fun, so the hike should take about 5 hours.

The parks we go to have a daffodil garden, an observation platform at the top of Mt. Masugata, a Fountain Square,  a Science Center for Youth (which includes a Planetarium,  Nihon Minka-en (Japan Open-Air Folk Museum) where there are many Traditional Folk Houses (500 yen) and more!!!

8:26 Leave Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line (Express going towards Takaosanguchi)

9:18 Arrive at Takao Station and change to the Chuo Line

9:24 Take the Chuo Line (towards Kofu)

9:32 Arrive at Sagamiko

The hiking course time will be about 6 hours.

Gather at MYODEN Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to te Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of the members who do not go home directly.

OPTIONAL SWIMMING

The Ichikawa Clean Spa with swimming pool (jacuzzis), and sento with rotemburo is only 5 min. away on foot. For those interested in finishing their day with a swim or hot bath (bring swim ware and cap, Y500 admission to pool + Y600 if entering sento/rotemburo area)

Mt. Mitake & Mt. Hinode Hiking

(Participation Fee 1000 yen, Intermediate, Cancelled in case of rain)

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Ikusabata Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:12 am.

Make sure to bring your lunch and plenty of liquids.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Special Express at 7:51 to Takao. In Tachikawa (arriving at 8:17, change for the Oume Line, leaving Tachikawa at 8:26 and arriving at Oume Station at 8:56AM. Change here to the Oume Line (local) leaving across the platform at 8:57 and arriving at Ikusabata Station at 9:10AM. Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

Hiking Course:  Ikusabata Station – Mt. Hinode – Nanadai Waterfall – Rock Garden – Mitake Shrine – Mt. Mitake – Mitake Station  The hiking time is about 6.5 hours.
