1) SOUTH TAKAO RIDGE Hike (Intermediate Course)(Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Canceled in case of rain)

MEETING TIME AND PLACE: 10:15 a.m.in front of the ticket gate of Takaosanguchi Station of the Keio Line.

TRANSPORTATION: If you’re coming from Shinjuku, take the Keio Line (express going towards Keio Hachioji) departing from Keio Shinjuku Station at 9:20 a.m. and arriving at Kitano at 9:55. Change at Kitano to the Keio Takao line train going towards Takaosanguchi, leaving at 9:58 and arriving Takaosanguchi Station at 10:13.

WALKING TIME: About five hours

Course:Takaosanguchi Station – Mt. Nakazawa – Nishiyama Pass – Mt.Taikouji → Mt. Enokubo → (Shiroyama Lake view) → Mt.Kusato – Takaosanguchi Station

(We plan to take the 16:57 train in order to arrive at Eifukucho Station at 17:54 for those who wish to attend the Halloween Party.)

Walking time: 5 hours

Things to bring: Your lunch, drinks, and shoes which are appropriate for hiking

2) Zenpukiji River Full Moon Walk/Outdoor Halloween Party (in the park)

Let’s have a party in a park full of nature in the middle of Tokyo under the full moon, stopping by a mysterious temple as well!

Meeting place and time:At the ticket gate of Eifukuchou Station (Keio Inokashira line) at 18:00.

Course: Eifukucho Station (Keio Inokashira Line) – Ryukoji Temple – Wada Bori Park – Hamadayama Station (Keio Inokashira Line)

Walking Time: About 1.5 hours

Things to Bring: Food (for the party), any fun Halloween goods, costume (for those wishing to dress up), ground sheet

We will stop by a convenience store on the way to the park, so you can buy drinks/snacks there as well. There is a toilet in the park where you can change into your costume.

We’ll plan to finish (arrive at Hamadayama Station) around 21:00.

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at Barakinakayama Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00., and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join James (the organizer 090-1847-5075) at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call my James’ phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Multiple bonsai nurseries are situated along the district’s peaceful paths. Private houses in the area typically have a collection of bonsai in their gardens. We also visit the birthplace of manga museums.

Course: Keikyu-Nagasawa Station – Kurihama Pagoda & Goddess of Mercy – Mt. Miurafuji – Mt. Houdai – Mt. Takeyama – Tsukuihama Beach walk – Keikyu-Nagasawa Station

Mt. Takeyama  is the Miura Peninusula’s high point at 200 meters.  It has a panoramic view.  The hiking time is about 4 hours.

Environmental Project at Tama Zoo

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain) 9:30 am – 3:00 pm

The main types of work are cutting down old trees, clearing out dead wood, and cutting bamboo grrass.

Meeting place and time: 9:30 am at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Train:If you are going from Shinjuku, take the 8:43 Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:20) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:27 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:30.

If you would like to participate, please inform David (at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) by September 25 (Friday) by noon so that we can get volunteer insurance.

Things to bring: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Enjoy walking in the woods while having views of the surrounding Tokyo!

Meeting place and time: At the Odakyu Line’s Yomiuri Land Mae Station’s North Exit at 12:55 pm. 

If you are going from Shinjuku, take the Odakyu express train from Shinjuku Station at 12:30 (going towards Katase-Enoshima) to Noborito, arriving at 12:46. Change to the 12:49 Odakyu local line and get off at YomiuriLand-Mae at 12:54. 

This walking course passes by several temples and shrines, a nice wooded area, a Japanese garden, a “Fruits Park” and a lot of greenery.  It’s a fairly easy 2.5 hour hike ending up at Inada Park (on the Tama River) where we will have a picnic and park fun. From there, we walk to Inadazutsumi Station.

We plan to finish around 4:30 (or 3:30 for those who wish to leave early).

Course: Higashi Moro Station – Shishigataki Waterfall – Kamakita Lake – Shukuya-no-taki Waterfall –  Higashi Moro Station

The hike itself is about 5 hours (14 km).

Sarushima Walking Tour

It’s a great day-trip destination, an only uninhabited island in Tokyo
Bay. The ocean is clean. This area is famous for being the inspiration
for ruins in the Studio Ghibli’s movie Castle in the Sky.
