The course should take about 5 hours.

Meeting place and time: At the Keio Line’s Tama Center Station’s ticket gate at 13:05.

Train: Take the Keio Line (Express going towards Hashimoto) from Shinjuku Station at 12:32.
This arrives at Keio Tama Center at 13:02.

Course: This course has a lot of parks, green paths, and lines of trees.

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at Barakinakayama Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00., and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call my James (the organizer) phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Kamakura Hiking and Kamakura Beach Sunset!

Meeting place and time: Kitakamakura Station (on the Yokosuka Line or JR ShonanShinjuku Line) at 11:45 am or 1:00 pm. (East exit, DO NOT cross the tracks). 

Train : From Yokohama Station (if coming from this direction), take the 11:20 am JR ShonanShinjuku Line train (towards Zushi).  This arrives at Kitakamakura at 11:40 am.

Hiking Course : Kitakamakura Station (East Exit) – Engakuji Temple (lunch & sightseeing) – KitaKamakura Station East exit (1:00 pm to pick up latecomers) – Genjiyama Park – “Wash your Money” Cave Shrine – Kamakura Beach (Sunset?) – Kamakura Station

This hike isn’t difficult (about 8km) but there is a bit of going up and down on a rocky course.

Engakuji is one of the most famous Zen Buddhist temples in Japan and has a large, beautiful grounds. (Website in Japanese http://www.engakuji.or.jp ).  We finish at the beach around 4:15 pm for some eats/drinks/frisbee/sunset.

The main types of work are cutting down old trees, clearing out dead wood, and raking leaves.

Meeting place and time: 9:30 am at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

TrainIf you are going from Shinjuku, take the 8:43 Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:20) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:27 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:30.

If you would like to participate, please inform David (at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) by December 11 (Friday) by noon so that we can get volunteer insurance.

Things to bring: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

At Yahiro, we will meetup riverside in front of the boat dock, which is next to the train line bridge. This is only a 6-7 minute walk from the station. We will then pick up trash along the river bank for about about 3 to 3 and half hours with a break in the middle. In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will use rain ware and take cover as necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled or stopped if already in progress.

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.

We will clean the backside of the Nakade roughly between the Funabori Bridge and the Nishi Kasai Bridge.

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people, who may not be free in the afternoon, are welcome to join me at that time. Please go directly to the river as well as call James (the organizer) (090-1847-5075) to coordinate a meeting place.

Jambo & Earth Day Group Bike Ride

The reservation deadline for the bicycles is Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 pm.

The annual bike ride with the Earth Day Ride Group is usually held in April, but has been postponed this year (due to Corona) to November. Let’s enjoy the autumn colors in the Musashino area, having a leisurely ride from Mitaka Station through some residential areas and cycling paths.

The bicycle rental reservation deadline is Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 pm (Please keep this in mind since we cannot accept reservations after this.) Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding Corona, the bicycle rental shop (run by Mitaka City) requires all users to provide the information (below) one week before usage. We will be unable to wait for latecomers since the trains are infrequent.  So, please make sure to arrive at the meeting place on time.

*Please note that it might  be crowded due to the 3 day weekend plus the fall colors season in Hakone.  You have only 10 minutes to transfer in Odawara (and it’s about a 5 minute walk from the Odakyu Line to the Daiyuzan Line).  So, please allow yourself extra time for the transfer and toilet time.

Hike course: Daiyuzan Station → Sai-Jo-Ji Temple (a spectacular temple for fall colors) → Myoujingatake(1169m) (nice views of Mt. Fuji in good weather)→ Goura  (Take the Hakone Tozan Railway to HakoneYumoto&Odawara).

The walking time for this hike is about  5.5 hours.
