April 3 (Sunday) – Koto Ward “Full of Cherry Blossoms” Canal Hike SPECIAL TOUR (Easy Course) (Participation fee 500 yen) (Will still go in case of light rain) HALFNEW!

Meet at Minami Sunamachi Station’s (on the Tozai Line) A2 Exit at 10:00AM

Course (3 hours slow walking = 6.2 KM): MinamiSunamachi Station – Sendaiborigawa Canal – Kiba Park (Cherry Trees, Eating, Drinking, Sports) – Kiba Station (or, for those who want to do more, you can do more cherry blossom viewing along the canal and go to MonzenNakacho Station)

You can go shopping along the way for food & drink.

Miura Peninsula Cherry Blossom Viewing & Hike

(Bring your own food and drink for the hike)

We will meet at the ticket gate of Anjinzuka Station at 10:30AM. From Shinagawa, take the Keihin Kyuuko (Keikyuu) Line’s Express Train (going towards Misakiguchi) at 9:36 and change at Kanazawa Hakkei (arriving here at 10:17) to the Kiekyuu Line local, leaving at 10:19 (going towards Uraga). Take this train to Anjinzuka Station, arriving at 10:26.

Hiking Course: Anjinzuka Station – Tsukayama Park (with 10,000 cherry trees and ranked as one of the top 300 cherry tree spots in Japan) – Mt. Oogusu – Kinugasayama Parke (2000 cherry trees and ranked in the top 100 cherry tree spots in Japan) – Kinugasa Station

The hike itself is about 5 hours. 

If you want to ride on the train with David and others, please get on the front car at Shinagawa Station (David will be on that train already.)

Mt. Mitsumine Hike in Tanzawa

(¥500 Participation Fee) (Bring your own beverages and lunch box) (Cancelled in case of rain)(Intermediate)

We will meet at the ticket gate of Hon-Atsugi at 9:30AM.

Take the Odakyuu Line (Express) from Shinjuku at 8:31AM, arriving at Hon-Atsugi at 9:26AM

If you want to ride on the train with others, please get on the front car at Shinjuku Station (David will get on that same train at YoyogiUehara Station.)

We’ll take the 9:40 bus going towards Miyagase-ko, getting off at Susugaya (about 40 minutes – 470 Yen).

Course – Susugaya Bus Stop – Mt. Mitsumine – Hirosawaji Onsen Iriguchi – Hon-Atsugi (by bus)
Walking Time: about 5.5 Hours walking

Ebisu Int’l Party

Ebisu Int’l Party Reservations needed (Limit 8 people)

Time/Place: 6:30-9:00pm at Ebisu 7 (Map is at http://www.kokusaika.org/english/ebisu.html)

For JAMBO members, the cost is Y3,500 for men and 3,000 for women w/reservation (or plus 500 yen if you go directly without making a reservation). Large international party with bottled beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks + a 10-turkey traditional American Christmas dinner with stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, veggies, cheeses, breads, pumpkin pies + a large party cake from Kyle’s Good Finds Bakery. Half of your admission fee will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation, a group in Africa that works to protect the environment while, at the same time, promoting the development of the local people. http://www.awf.org/ is their homepage.

Okutama Hike & Plum Blossom Park

3/13 (Sunday) – Okutama Hike & the famous Yoshino Plum Blossom Park (¥500 Participation Fee) (Bring your own beverages and lunch box) (Cancelled in case of rain)(A bit difficult)

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Kori Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:30 am. From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Special Express
at 7:52 to Tachikawa (arriving at 8:17) and change here for the Oume Line, leaving Tachikawa at 8:20 and arriving at Oume Station at 8:55AM. Change here to the Oume Line (local) leaving at 8:56 and arriving at Kori Station at 9:26AM. Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one. A part of the train leaving from Shinjuku may go all the way to Ome, so please check there (in which case there would be no need to transfer at Tachikawa).

If you want to ride on the train with others, please get on the front car at Shinjuku Station (David will get on that same train at Mitaka Station.)

The hike will be Kori Station – Mt. Ootsuka – Mitake Shrine -Mt. Mitake -Mt. Hinode – Yoshino Plum Park (near Hinatawada Station).

The hiking time is about 6 hours, but if you get tired, you can hike about 3 hours, then take a cable car and train to Yoshino Plum Park. This hike as spectacular scenery and ends up at Yoshino Plum Blossom Park (ranked number 1 amongst 90 national plum blossom parks throughout Japan). Please see:

Chichibu Hiking and Plum Blossoms

(Not Difficult Course)

We will meet at the ticket gate of Ogose at 11:00AM. From Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo Line’s Express Train at 9:45 and change at Sakado (arriving here at 10:28) to the Tobu Ogose Line. Take the 10:40AM Tobu Ogose Line train to the end (Ogose Station). It arrives at Ogose at 10:58AM. From here, we hike by a nice temple, up a small mountain, and down to Ogose Plum Tree Park, which should be in bloom and has 1,000 trees, with some being 600 years old.

The hike itself is about 3.5 hours. Should be a lot of fun! The train fare is 700¥ one-way.

9:30 Leave Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line (Express going towards Takaosanguchi)
10:20 Arrive at Tako Station and change to the Chuo Line
10:31 Take the Chuo Line (towards Ootsuki)
10:40 Arrive at Sagamiko
