
We will meet at the gate of Daiyuuzan station (Daiyuuzan line) at 9:50 AM.
David will get on the front of the Odakyuu line train at Yoyogi Uehara at 7:46.
Take the following train: Odakyu Line Shinjuku station 7:41AM – Odawara station 9:15AM. From there, we take the 9:24 Daiyuzan train (270 yen) to Daiyuzan Station (arriving at 9:45). Then we take the bus (No.1) going to Sai-Jo-Ji Temple, leaving at 10:02 and arriving at 10:12.
We will be unable to wait for latecomers.

外国人向きだから、英語の説明だけです。WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY for foreigners living in Japan to learn Japanese in a friendly environment, make connections with Japanese who are actively involved with volunteerism, find short term and long term volunteer opportunities, and have a fun time sharing food, drink and conversation.
19:00 – 20:00 – Private or semi-private conversation/lesson in Japanese or (if nobody wants a lesson) talk on volunteerism
20:00 – 21:00 – An information get-together in English and Japanese while eating and drinking (Free if you bring some snacks/drinks OR ¥500 for the snacks/drinks we provide). Learn about volunteer opportunities, make friends with active bi-lingual speakers giving you the chance to expand your network and your perspective.
The Japanese volunteers for this event come from LVC (Language Volunteer Co-Talk), a group which is forming an international volunteer network in Tokyo. This event will be held at JAMBO SCHOOL on the second Friday of each month for as long as there is a demand.

Cutting down bamboo grass & cutting down old trees

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).
Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:28AM.
If you would like to participate, please inform David by November 5 so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.
Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Meeting Place/Time: Ikusabata Station Ticket Gate at 10:24AM
Take the 9:09AM Chuo Line Super Express train from Shinjuku Station (going towards Oume). This arrives at Oume Station at 10:07AM. Go across the platform and take the 10:09AM train going towards Okutama. This train arrives at Ikusabata Station at 10:22AM. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train. From here, we do a 4.5 hour hike to Mitake Station.
David will get on the front of the Chuo Line train at Nakano Station at 9:13.
Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Do something good for the environment and join the garbage pick-up. Then, go to one of the best parks in Tokyo, Kasai Rinkai Park, on the Tokyo Bay (eating, drinking, frisbee, seeing the sunset (hopefully).

We will meet at 8:05 a.m. at JR Shinjuku Station at the north end of Platform 11 (front of the train) and take the Chuo Line JR Holiday Kaisoku departing at 8:14. The train arrives at JR Takao Station at 8:59 and departs at 9:05, arriving at Saruhashi Station at 9:45. (You can also meet us at either Takao Station at 8:59 or Saruhashi Station at 9:45.) Starting from Saruhashi Station, we walk through pine and mixed forests to the top of Momokura-yama, where there are fine views of the mountains of Yamanashi to the north and Tanzawa to the south. Hopefully the autumn leaves will be in full color! We follow a ridge trail back to Saruhashi Station (the FOE website says Torisawa Station, but this is wrong!), stopping off at the “Monkey Bridge” (“Saruhashi”) before taking the Chuo Line back to Hachioji for a stop at the Galway Irish pub.
The hike is rated moderately hard and the walking time is about 5.5 hours. A donation of 1,000 yen to Friends of the Earth is requested. More information is available at the FOE websites: (in English) / (in Japanese).

The Koto Central Citizens Festival, with many programs and booths (food, drink, volunteer groups, etc) will be held on that day (and Saturday as well). David will be working at the LVC booth from 2:00 – 4:00PM on Sunday, so please enjoy the festival and stop by the booth to say hi.
