1) Environmental Project Volunteering at Tama Zoo –
Cutting down bamboo grass & old trees
(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain) 9:30AM – 2:30PM

Cost: 500 yen for insurance

We meet at 9:30AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).
Take the 8:47AM Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:21AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:25 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station  at 9:28AM.

If you would like to participate, please inform David by November 10 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance. If you join this event, please bring the following: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

2) Zenpukuji River FULL MOON Walk 

(Easy) (FREE) (Cancelled in case of rain)
 
We will meet at the ticket gate of Eifukuchou Station (Keio Inokashira line) at 18:15.

Course: Eifukucho Station (Keio Inokashira Line) – Omiya Hachimangu Shrine – Wada Bori Park – Zenpukuji Green Park – Tenou Bridge – Minami Asagaya Station (Marunouchi Line)

This course has a wealth of nature in the middle of Tokyo, along with the FULL MOON!!!
 
Walking Time: About 2.5 hours

YRP Nobi Station – Roads and Nature Course to Karouto Mountain Kofun Park – Hikari Hill Water Park  – Nature Course and roads to Nobi Coast Park  – Coastal Boardwalk –  – Keikyuu Nagasawa Station
 
Total course time: 4 hours
 
If you’re going from Shinagawa Station, take the following train.  We’ll meet at the front of the train.

Nogawa Walking Course & Jindai Botanical Park Chrysanthemum Show (in English)!

(EASY)(¥1000 Participation Fee (Children free) + ¥500 Park Entrance Fee) (Will be held even in light rain)(in English)

The program is ¥1000 and everyone is requested to use English only for the first hour. After that, people may speak in their preferred language, but David will use only English during the walk for the first 2 hours.
Meeting Place/Time: Chuo Line’s Higashi Koganei Station’s South Exit at 12:26 PM
Take the 12:05 Chuo Line Super Express train (going towards Takao) from Shinjuku Station and get off at Mitaka (arriving at 12:17). Change to the Chuo Express (going towards Tachikawa) leaving at 12:20. This arrives at Higashi Koganei at 12:24.
 
This is an 6 km course that runs through the suburbs and about half of the walk is along the Nogawa River.  We finish up at Jindai Botanical Park, where there’s a Chrysantemum Show. The entrance fee to the park is ¥500 for adults, ¥250 for those over 65 and ¥200 those 15 years and younger.

Chichibu Hiking

Mt. Futago and Yakiyama

From Ikebukuro Station, take the 8:35 Seibu Ikebukuro express going towards Hanno, and get off at Hanno Station, arriving there at 9:24AM.   Change there to the 9:28 train (going towards Chichibu) and get off at Ashigakubo (arriving at 10:09). Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.
 
David will meet people on the front end of the train at Ikebukuro at 9:35, or meet at Ashigakubo’s ticket gate at 10:10. 
 
Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.
 
Course (from Ashigakubo Station): Mt. Futago – Yakiyama – Mt. Futago –  Ashigakuboo Station
 
Walking Time: About 5 hours

Bring appropriate walking shoes, food for lunch and drinks. If you want to go to the hot springs, bring a towel and change of clothes.

Meeting Place/Time: JR Gotemba Line’s Yaga Station Ticket Gate at 10:27AM
Take the following trains:
• Shinjuku Station (Odakyu Line Express going towards Fujisawa) 8:41AM – SagamiOono Station (arriving at 9:18)
• SagamiOono (Odakyu Line Express going towards Odawara) – 9:20 Departure, arriving at ShinMatsuda at 10:04
• Matsuda Station JR Gotemba Line (10:12 Departure) – Yaga Station (10:25)

DEFINITELY arrive at this time (since we cannot wait for the next train since they run infrequently)!

If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 8:41 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station. David will get on the first car at YoyogiUehara.

Walking Time: About five and a half hours

Course: Yaga Station – Mt. Ohio (723 Meters) – Shasui Waterfall – Yamakita Station and Hot Springs
This course includes the Shasui Waterfall, one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls.

SeisekiSakuragaoka Station Area Course

Meet at SeisekiSakuragaoka Station on the Keio Line at 11:00AM. Take the Keio Line super express train (going towards Keio Hachioji) from Shinjuku Station at 10:27AM. This arrives at SeisekiSakuragaoka Station at 10:57.

Course: SeisekiSakuragaoka Station – Keio Store – Iroha Slope Park – Haramine Park – Sakuragaoka Park – Shimizudani Green Area – SeisekiSakuragaoka Station

We will first stop at the Keio Store in front of the station to buy lunch goods. From there, we will walk to Haraho Park where we will have lunch. This hiking course includes a walk along a river, a couple of green areas, several parks and a couple of shrines. It’s an easy, fun walk which should last about 4 hours.

River Garbage Pick-up & Kiba Park FESTIVAL!

ARAKAWA RIVER CLEAN UP AND FESTIVAL FUN!

Meeting Place and Time: The ticket gate of Nishi Kasai Station (Tozai Line) at 9:30AM or Exit 3 of Kiba Station (on the Tozai Line) at 1:30PM

SCHEDULE
9:30AM – Meet at Nishi Kasai Station (Tozai Line) ticket gate
10:00 – 12:00 – Do a Garbage Clean-up under Kasaibashi bridge (Edogawa Ward) (Please bring work gloves if you have them)
2:00 – 4:00PM – Kiba Park Koto Ward & Central Festival – http://www.koto-kuminmaturi.jp/
Do something good for the environment and join the garbage pick-up. After that, we’ll go to a big festival in Kiba Park (http://www.koto-kuminmaturi.jp/). There will be many volunteer organizations which have booths, so you can get information on environmental and other groups, And, of course, there will be many food and drink stands as well.

Reservations not necessary
You may join the garbage pick-up and the festival, or only one of them if you prefer.

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 10:00AM.  From Shinjuku, take the JR Holiday Special Rapid Okutama#5 (going to Okutama) at 8:19AM.  This arrives at Okutama Station at 9:54.  Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.
