RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at FUNABORI Station (Shinjuku Line) outside the ticket gate at
13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the
river bank for about 3.5 to 4 hours.

the Shinjuku Line train bridge and the Kasaibashi Bridge. Also call

RAIN
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled.
Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until
any downpours let up. . In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g.,
typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and
usually moved to a different day).

Meeting Place and Time: The North Ticket Gate of Tsurumaki Onsen Station (on  the Odakyuu Line) at 11:00  am

Train: For those going there from Shinjuku, board the 10:01 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku (going towards Odawara). This arrives in Tsurumaki-Onsen at 10:59.

Course: Tsurumaki Onsen Station – Mt. Azuma – Mt.Koubou – Mt.Gongen –
Yukaraku Onsen – Shibusawa Station (about 4 hours)

After the hike, for those who want to go to onsen, we will stop by the hot springs: Yukaraku hotsprings (¥1150 + 150円)

(onsen information) From December 27 to January 4, a special year-end and New Year period will apply. During this time, the admission fee will be 150 yen higher than the regular weekend/holiday rate.

The trains are not running frequently, so we won’t be able to wait for the next train.  Please make sure to meet at the appointed time since we won’t be able to attend to latecomers)

Hanno Departure (on the Seibu Chichibu line going towards Seibu-Chichibu) 9:32 – Nishi Agano Arrival 9:59

Course: Nishi Agano Station – Ogi no Daira – Shirataki Waterfall – Fudou Waterfall – Big Waterfall – Nishi Agano Station (About 4 hours)

Please bring your lunch and drink and make sure to wear proper shoes for a hike.

After that, those who want (non-hikers are welcome too) will go to the Ikebukuro Metropolitan Plaza Illumination arriving about 16:45 and then go to a pub/restaurant for the last Jambo cheers of 2025.

Saruhashi – Ootsuki Hiking

(1,000yen) (Intermediate Level) (Canceled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Saruhashi Station (Chuo Line) Ticket Gate 9:53 am

Train: Since trains are running infrequently, we won’t be able to wait for the next train.  We need to start the hike as scheduled, so we can’t attend to latecomers.  Please make sure to arrive by the appointed meeting time.

Take the 9:18 train from Takao (JR Chuo Line going towards Kofu) and get off at Saruhashi Station, arriving at 9:50.

Course: Saruhashi Station – Gozen-yama – Mt. Kikuka – Ootsuki Station

Walking time: about 3.5 hours.

Please wear appropriate shoes for the hike and bring lunch and drinks

Edogawa River Clean Up

Gather at Myoden Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate, and
then go to the Edogawa River and pick up trash along the banks for
about
 3.5 to 4 hours

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location
between the Bay front bridges and the New Myoden Bridge. From
the
station, walk to the new Myoden Bridge, cross the river, and then
along 
the river bank until between the two bridges and look for us at
the 
water line. Also call James’ (the organizer) cell phone

there are any problems finding us.

RAIN
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled
as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up
under
cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas
using
 rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g.,
typhoon
 conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Meeting Place and time: 9:47 am at Utsugidai Bus Stop

Those who wish to go with David, please meet at Hino Station (on the Chuo Line) ticket gate at 9:25. We will take the 9:30 bus from there (15 minutes).

Work hours: 10:00 – 15:30
 (Cutting down bamboo grass, cutting down old trees, carrying logs, raking leaves)

Please wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt and exercise shoes.

2) Tamagawa River Clean Up

and then go to the Tamagawa River and pick up trash along the
banks for
 about 3.5 to 4 hours.

or near the new Tamagawa Sky Bridge (But walk straight to the river
first as there is no access from the bridge.) Also call James’ (the

1) Ranzan Gorge Fall Color Hiking & 2) Fall Color Walk in Ogikubo & 3) Arakawa River Clean Up (Separate Events)

1) Ranzan Gorge Fall Color Hiking

(Intermediate Course) (Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: MusashiRanzan Station Ticket Gate at 9:45 am

Train: Please make sure to come at the appointed time.

If you are coming from Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo (Express towards Ogawamachi) Line’s 8:36 am train and get off at MusashiRanzan Station, arriving at 9:43 am.

Ranzan Gorge is well-known for its beautiful maple trees.

Course:  Musashi-Ranzan Station – Ranzan Gorge – Mt. Monomi – Mt.Shiroyama –Mt. Sengen (299m)   – Ogawamachi Station

We will have a 5 hour walk up a few small mountains (with the highest being 299m) and into a gorge.

Please wear appropriate shoes for a hike and bring a lunch and plenty of liquids.

 

2) Fall Color Walk in Ogikubo
(¥1000 Participation Fee) (¥300 Admission)(Cancelled in case of heavy rain)

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. The main path leading to the Japanese garden – lined with century-old ginkgo trees – glows in vibrant yellow, while the garden’s fiery red maples are illuminated and mirrored on the still pond, creating picture-perfect photo ops at night.

☆Course: Ogikubo Station North Exit – Amanuma Overpass – Aurora Monument – Gandhi Statue – Otaguro Park – Ogikubo Station

☆ Walking Time: About half an hour (less than 2km).

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at Funabori Station (Shinjuku Line) outside the only ticket gate,
and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for
about 3.5 to 4 hours with a break in the middle.

WHAT TO BRING
Wear old clothing that you do not mind getting dirty, and please wear
long pants. Bare legs are not recommended because they can easily get
cut from objects like cut river reeds. Also, a hat is recommended,
especially during the summer months, and please bring lots of liquids to
drink. Bringing gloves is also recommended but we usually have some
extra pairs available to loan out. Then please come with proper footwear
or not sandals and so on.

the island under the elevated C2 highway between the Kasaibashi Bridge
iand the Shinjuku Line train bridge but much closer to the Shinjuku Line
