(1) Miura Peninsula Hiking Course

Meeting Place/Time: Keikyu-Nagasawa Station on the Keihin Kyuko (Keikyu) Line at 11:30 am

Train: For those going from Shinagawa.
Shinagawa Departure (Keihin Kyuko Line special express going towards Misakiguchi) – 10:28
Keikyu-Nagasawa Station Arrival – 11:27

Course: Keikyu-Nagasawa Station – Kurihama Pagoda & Goddess of Mercy – Mt. Miurafuji – Mt. Houdai – Mt. Takeyama – Tsukuihama Beach walk – Keikyu-Nagasawa Station

Mt. Takeyama  is the Miura Peninusula’s high point at 200 meters.  It has a panoramic view.  The hiking time is about 4 hours.

Please bring your lunch and drinks.

(2) Tama River Clean Up
Gather at Daishibashi Station: 10:00
(Keiykyu Daishi Line from Kawasaki)

Go to the river 10:10
River Clean Up: 10:20-12:30
Lunch Riverside: 12:30-13:00
River Clean Up: 13:00-14:30
Relaxing riverside: 14:30-15:00
Return to station: 15:00

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at Daishibashi Station (Keiykyu Daishi Line from Kawasaki) outside the ticket gate at 10:00, and then take a short walk to the river and pick up trash along the river bank for about about 3 to 3 and half hours with a lunch break in the middle. Convenience stores are within a 5-minute so it will be easy to buy a bento.

If you come late, it will be about a short 5-min. walk to our location on the river at the waterline near the Daishi Bridge. Also call James (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will use rain ware and take cover as necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled or stopped if already in progress.

Hiking Course : Minami-kurihashi Station – Takasuka Pond –  Gongendo Park (5,000,000 Spider Lillies) We will hang out here, having fun and eating and drinking  – Satte City Historical Buildings walk – Satte Station

This hiking is about 4 hours (10 km) with a lot of fun mixed in.

Environmental Project at Tama Zoo

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain) 9:30 am – 3:00 pm

The main types of work are cutting down old trees, clearing out dead wood, and cutting bamboo grrass.

Meeting place and time: 9:30 am at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Train:If you are going from Shinjuku, take the 8:43 Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:20) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:27 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:30.

If you would like to participate, please inform David (at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) by September 25 (Friday) by noon so that we can get volunteer insurance.

Things to bring: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Enjoy walking in the woods while having views of the surrounding Tokyo!

Meeting place and time: At the Odakyu Line’s Yomiuri Land Mae Station’s North Exit at 12:55 pm. 

If you are going from Shinjuku, take the Odakyu express train from Shinjuku Station at 12:30 (going towards Katase-Enoshima) to Noborito, arriving at 12:46. Change to the 12:49 Odakyu local line and get off at YomiuriLand-Mae at 12:54. 

This walking course passes by several temples and shrines, a nice wooded area, a Japanese garden, a “Fruits Park” and a lot of greenery.  It’s a fairly easy 2.5 hour hike ending up at Inada Park (on the Tama River) where we will have a picnic and park fun. From there, we walk to Inadazutsumi Station.

We plan to finish around 4:30 (or 3:30 for those who wish to leave early).

Course: Higashi Moro Station – Shishigataki Waterfall – Kamakita Lake – Shukuya-no-taki Waterfall –  Higashi Moro Station

The hike itself is about 5 hours (14 km).

Sarushima Walking Tour

It’s a great day-trip destination, an only uninhabited island in Tokyo
Bay. The ocean is clean. This area is famous for being the inspiration
for ruins in the Studio Ghibli’s movie Castle in the Sky.

Course: Torisawa Station – Mt. Kuratake – Yanagawa Gorge (for river fun) – Yanagawa Station
We will finish by relaxing on the Yanagawa River, where you can stroll along the river and swim into a gorge.

Walking time: 4.5 hours
Please bring your lunch and drink. If you want to swim, also bring swimwear.

2) Edogawa River Clean-up

13:00, and then go to te Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along
the banks for about about 3 hours.

NIJIKAI DINNER
Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather
permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby
convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of the
members who do not go home directly.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and
precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make
specific arrangements with call James (the organizer) (090-1847-5075).

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the
opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. We’ll start under the
Tokyo Bay front bridges (Rt. 357, highway & Keiyo Line)

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as
we will move to and from the river by car and we will be cleaning up
under the cover of bridges. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds
(e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.
