Considering the current situation of Covid 19 as well as the announcement of the ”Phase of Emergency”, all the events on this 3-day weekend are canceled. We are very sorry for the last-minute announcement.

Also, in the near future, the decision of whether to hold the events or not will be determined based on the situation of Covid 19 and the direction of the Tokyo government.

Instead, Jambo will hold a “HAPPY NEW YEAR” Zoom session. Please join if you are free. (We apologize the we won’t be using another SNS (like Messenger or Line).

If there is sufficient interest, we’d like to do this regularly during the emergency period when we cannot hold Jambo events.

Arakawa River Clean Up

SCHEDULE

Gather at Nishi Kasai Station: 13:00

Go to river: 13:10

Gather riverside: 13:30

River Clean Up: 13:30-17:00

Return to station.

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at NISHI KASAI Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about 3 to 3.5 hours.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location the river which may vary month by month. Call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at YAHIRO Station (Keisei Oshiage Line, extension of Asakusa Line)) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

(Optional) OTHER CLEANING TIMES

If you are not able to make the scheduled time, check for the location and you could do cleaning at your own schedule with the bags left for us to pick up. Just use clear bags and be sure to sort by burnable, glass, cans, pet bottles, nonburnable and batteries, etc. in small open containers.

(Optional) NIJIKAI DINNER

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of any members who do not go home directly.

There is a participant of Jambo who contracted COVID-19; therefore, we are canceling the event on December 30th. As for the events in January, 2021, we will decide whether or not to hold each respective event while monitoring the situation.  Please check the Jambo website and Twitter for updates.

○In order to avoid crowding at supermarkets and convenient stores, please bring your lunch with you to the meeting place. We will not stop at any stores after meeting.

Train: Take the Keio Line (Express going towards Hashimoto) from Shinjuku Station at 12:32.
This arrives at Keio Tama Center at 13:02.

Course: This course has a lot of parks, green paths, and lines of trees.

Gather at Barakinakayama Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00., and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call my James (the organizer) phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Kamakura Hiking and Kamakura Beach Sunset!

Meeting place and time: Kitakamakura Station (on the Yokosuka Line or JR ShonanShinjuku Line) at 11:45 am or 1:00 pm. (East exit, DO NOT cross the tracks). 

Train : From Yokohama Station (if coming from this direction), take the 11:20 am JR ShonanShinjuku Line train (towards Zushi).  This arrives at Kitakamakura at 11:40 am.

Hiking Course : Kitakamakura Station (East Exit) – Engakuji Temple (lunch & sightseeing) – KitaKamakura Station East exit (1:00 pm to pick up latecomers) – Genjiyama Park – “Wash your Money” Cave Shrine – Kamakura Beach (Sunset?) – Kamakura Station

This hike isn’t difficult (about 8km) but there is a bit of going up and down on a rocky course.

Engakuji is one of the most famous Zen Buddhist temples in Japan and has a large, beautiful grounds. (Website in Japanese http://www.engakuji.or.jp ).  We finish at the beach around 4:15 pm for some eats/drinks/frisbee/sunset.

The main types of work are cutting down old trees, clearing out dead wood, and raking leaves.

Meeting place and time: 9:30 am at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s Station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Cost: FREE

TrainIf you are going from Shinjuku, take the 8:43 Keio Line Semi-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:20) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:27 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:30.

If you would like to participate, please inform David (at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) by December 11 (Friday) by noon so that we can get volunteer insurance.

Things to bring: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

RIVER CLEAN UP

At Yahiro, we will meetup riverside in front of the boat dock, which is next to the train line bridge. This is only a 6-7 minute walk from the station. We will then pick up trash along the river bank for about about 3 to 3 and half hours with a break in the middle. RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will use rain ware and take cover as necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled or stopped if already in progress.
