Yanesen Azalea Walk

(Easy)(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of heavy rain)

There are plenty of old temples and old buildings from the Edo Period still standing in Yanesen. The azalea garden in Nezu Shrine has over 3,000 flowers and 100 varieties of Azalea that bloom from early April until early May. 

☆The program is ¥1000. 

☆Meeting Time/Place: 10:00 JR Nippori Station north ticket gate

☆Course: Nippori Station – Yanaka Ginza – Okakura Tenshin Memorial Park – Nezu Shrine – Nezu Station

☆Walking Time: About 1 hour (3km) plus a lot of time for shopping and sightseeing so the walk should take about 2 hours.

☆You can buy food and drink on the way.

Meeting place and time: At the ticket gate of Akigawa Station (on the JR Itsukaichi Line) at 11:12 am

Train: From Haijima Station, take the 11:02 JR Itsukaichi Line (going towards Musashi-Itsukaichi), arriving at Akigawa Station at 11:11.

Course: Akigawa Station – Mt. Daicho (192 m) Hiking Course – Hamura Tulip Field – Hamura Station
Walking Time: about 3.5 hours

2)  Edogawa River Clean Up

SCHEDULE
Gather at Barakinakayama Station: 13:00
River Clean Up: 13:30-16:30
Relaxing riverside: 16:30-17:00
Return to station by Car: 17:00 – 17:15

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at Barakinakayama Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location the river which may vary month by month. Call James (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

Train: (if you are coming from Shinjuku)
Shinjuku Station (Odakyu Line Express going towards Odawara) 8:30 – ShinMatsuda, arriving at 9:55 – Matsuda Station JR Gotemba Line, departing at 10:08  – Yaga Station 10:21
DEFINITELY arrive at this time (since we cannot wait for the next train since they run infrequently)!

Course: Yaga Station – Mt. Ohno (723 M) – Shasui Waterfall – Yamakita Station

Walking Time: About five and a half hours
Be sure to bring your lunch and drinks.  Also, please wear the appropriate shoes for a hike.

Arakawa River Clean Up

Gather at NISHI KASAI Station: 13:00
Go to the river 13:10
River Clean Up: 13:30-16:30

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at NISHI KASAI Station (Tozai Line) outside the ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the river bank for about about 3 to 3 and half hours.

MORNING SESSION (optional)
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people, who may not be free in the afternoon, are welcome to join me at that time. Please go directly to the river as well as call James (090-1847-5075) to coordinate a meeting place.

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the river at the waterline between the Kasaibashi Bridge and the Tozai Line bridge. Also call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will use rain ware and take cover as necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled or stopped if already in progress.

April 3 (Saturday) – Tama Cherry Tree Extravaganza Walk
(Easy)(Participation Fee 1000 yen)(Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place & Time:  Tama Center (Keio Line) ticket gate at 12:15 pm

Course: Keio Tama Center Station → Kotta River (Cherry Lined River) → Tsurumaki West Park (Weeping Cherries) → Karakida 100 Weeping Cherries → Narahara Park (Cherry trees) → Fujimi (Cherry tree lined) Street → Takarano Park (Cherry Trees) → Ipponsugi Park →Tama Central Park (Cherry trees) → Tama Center Illumination (on trees) from5:00 pm (if anybody wants to go) → Tama Center Station

Walking Time: About 3 hours (9 km) plus a lot of time for fun (including looking at the beautiful cherry trees along the way), so the walk should take about 4-5 hours.

Tamagawa River Clean Up

SCHEDULE

Gather at Daishibashi Station: 13:00

River Clean Up: 13:30-16:30

Relaxing riverside: 16:30-17:00

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at DAISHIBASHI Station (Keikyudashi Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Tamagawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

(Optional) OTHER CLEANING TIMES

If you are not able to make the scheduled time, check for the location and you could do cleaning at your own schedule with the bags left for us to pick up. Just use clear bags and be sure to sort by burnable, glass, cans, pet bottles, nonburnable and batteries, etc. in small open containers.

(Optional) NIJIKAI DINNER

Some participants may go for dinner at a nearby restaurant or weather permitting we could picnic riverside with some bentos bought at a nearby convenience store. The schedule will be flexible up to a vote of any members who do not go home directly.

Meeting place & time: Tobu-Ogose Line’ s Ogose station ticket gate at 9:27 am

Train: For those going from Ikebukuro:
Ikebukuro Departure (TobuTojo Line (express) going towards ShinrinKoen)) 8:20 ⇒ Sakado (arrival) 9:03 ⇒ HURRY to the Ogose Line (on another platform) Sakado (departure) 9:06 ⇒ Ogose arrival 9:25
BE SURE to get to Ogose by 9:25 since we cannot wait for latecomers.

Course: Ogose Station → Mt. NishiTakatori → Mt. Otakatori → Sakura no yama Park (cherry viewing) → Ogose Station

After this, those who want to join the afternoon event will take the train to HigashiMurayama Station.

2) Totoro Woods & Sayama Park (cherry viewing)
(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Canceled in case of rain) (Easy – Geared for children)

Meeting place and time: Seibu Shinjuku Line’s HigashiMurayama Station ticket gate at 2:15 pm

Course:  Higashi-Murayama Station → Hachikokuyama Green Area→ Totoro Woods Green Area #2 → Sayama Park → Musashi Yamato Station

This course will be half road and half hiking paths. We will finish with a walk around Sayama Park’s large cherry tree area (Cherry viewing parties aren’t permitted). Walking hours is about 2 hours.
