Mt. Honita and Kobutaka (in Okutama) Hiking

Meeting place and time:  At the JR Ohme Line’s Okutama Station’s Ticket Gate at 9:55 am

Train: From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Holiday Special Express going towards Okutama at 8:20. This goes all the way to Okutama Station, arriving at 9:54 am (but be sure to get on the right part of the train which goes to Okutama, and beware that the platform may not be the regular Chuo Line Platform at Shinjuku (probably leaves from platform #7).

BE SURE TO take this train.  As the trains are running infrequently, we won’t be able to wait for the next train and attend to the latecomers.

Course: Okutama Station – Aterazawa – Mt. Honita – Mt. Kobutaka –  Oneyama Shrine – Hatonosu Station
The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Please bring your own drinks and lunch.
Be sure to wear appropriate shoes for hiking.

(1000 Yen) (Easy Course)(Will be held even in light rain)

Meeting time and place: 10:32 am at the Kitami Station (on the Odakyuu Line) ticket gate.

Course: Kitami Station → Kitami Playground Area (Lunch) → Walk along the Nogawa River → Jidayubori Park’s Old Farm House Garden →  Okamoto Park’s Old Farm House Garden → Tama River (We’ll eat, drink, play frisbee and hang out on the riverbank, people who want to leave may go to nearby FutagoTamagawa Station) → Todoroki Gorge → Todoroki Station

Walking distance: About 10 km (about 4 hours)

(2) Arakawa River Clean Up

SCHEDULE
Gather at Funabori Station: 13:00
Go to the river: 13:10
River Clean Up: 13:30-17:00
Relaxing riverside: 17:00-17:30
Return to station: 17:30

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at FUNABORI Station (Shinjuku Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 hours.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25 min. walk to our location about 200-300 meters or so from the Shinjuku Line Bridge (near the dirty angle). Call James’ (the organizer’s) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

Meeting Place/Time: Agano Station at 10:10 am

Train: Hanno Station Departure – 9:43 (Seibu Chichibu line train going towards Seibu Chichibu)
Agano Station Arrival – 10:09

Be sure to take this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

The hike will be Agano Station – Maesaka – Mt. Ootaka – Mt. Tenkaku – Higashi Agano Station.
The hiking time is about 4  hours.

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at Myoden Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00., and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 to 4 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION

As I am often on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with James (the organizer) by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc. Also, members can clean at any time and even any date. Just bring some clear bags and sort the trash collected, buranable, PET, cans, bottles, nonburanble, etc. and let me know where you leave the bags so that we can collect them.

INFO:

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Mt. Oyama New Year Hiking

It’s a sacred mountain since ancient times. The views from the summit and Oyama-Afuri Shrine are fantastic and the site was given a 2-star rating by Michelin Green Guide Japan.
