It is the largest lavender field in Japan easily accessible from Tokyo. You can enjoy seeing a carpet of lavender. The combination of the blue clear sky, Japanese rural landscape, and the purple lavender flowers are breathtakingly beautiful.

Meeting Time/Place: Tobu Tojo Line Musashi-Ranzan Station ticket gate at 2:05 pm

Course : Musashi-Ranzan Station – Sugaya Yakata Castle Ruins – Sennen-no-Sono Lavender Field – Musashi-Ranzan Station

Walking Time: A little over an hour (about 6km) plus a lot of time for sightseeing so the walk should take about 2 hours.

Ootsuki (Cliff) Hiking Course

(1000 Yen, Intermediate, Canceled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Ootsuki Station (Chuo Line) Ticket Gate 10:57 am

Train: From Takao Station, take the Chuo Line train (going towards Ootsuki)at 10:19.
This arrives at Ootsuki at 10:55.

Trains are not running frequently and we can’t wait for the next train.  Please come at the appointed time since we won’t be able to attend to latecomers.

Course: Ootsuki Station – Mt. Iwadono – Chigootoshi Cliffs – Ootsuki Station

Walking time: about 4 hours.
Walking Distance: About 10 km

Please wear appropriate shoes for a hike and bring lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Meeting Place/Time: Kamakura Station (East Exit) at 10:10 am
For those going from Shinagawa Station, take the 9:21 am Yokosuka Line train (towards Kurihama).  This arrives at Kamakura at 10:09 am.

Hiking Course  – Kamakura Station – Hongakuji Temple – Myohonji Temple – Ankokuronji Temple (maybe)  Yuigahama Beach (lunch) – Joju-in (Excellent coast view) – Daibutsu Hiking Course (and Genjiyama Park) – Engakuji Temple – Kitakamakura Station

The selected temples and shrine are well-known for the Hydrangea blooming this season!!!

Please bring your lunch and drinks.

River Clean Up: 15:00

RIVER CLEAN UP

Gather at Myoden Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 14:30, and then go to the Edogawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 to 4 hours.

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa under the bay front bridges. Just walk to the river from the station and the head to the orange bridge. Also call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847 5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Meeting Place and time: 9:47 am at Utsugidai Bus Stop
Those who wish to go with David, please meet at Hino Station (on the Chuo Line) ticket gate at 9:27.  We will take the 9:32 bus from there (15 minutes).

Work hours: 10:00 – 15:30
(Cutting down bamboo grass and collecting plums)

Please wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt and exercise shoes. Please bring your own drinks, food (for lunch) and work gloves.

(Canceled) Chichibu Hiking  

Today’s event will be canceled. Several weather sights predict lighting and thunder in Chichibu are.

Meeting Place/Time: Shomaru Station Ticket Gate at 10:20 am

Train: If you are coming from Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s  8:50 am train (bound for Hanno) and get off  at Hanno, arriving at 9:37.  Cross the platform to the Seibu Chichibu Line train going to Seibu Chichibu, leaving at 9:43. This arrives at Shomaru Station at 10:18 am.

Since the train is running infrequently, we won’t be able to wait for the next train and attend to the latecomers.  Please make sure to come at the appointed time.

Course:  Shomaru Station – Kabasaka Pass – Mt. Futago – Buna Pass -NishiAgano Station

Walking Time: About 4.5 hours
Walking Distance: About 12 km

Bring your own food & drink since there are no stores near Shomaru Station.

From Ootemachi Station, take the Chiyoda Line (going towards Abiko) at 10:39. This arrives at Ayase at 10:59 (It changes name to the JR Joban Line en route so jArakawa River Clean Upust one train from Ootemachi)

Course: Ayase Station – Iris Marsh Park (Large Iris area)(Lunch) – Nakagawa Park – Nishi Mizumoto Park  – Mizumoto Park (Large Iris area) – Kanamachi Station

The walking distance is about 10 km, so we expect to arrive at the Mizumoto Park Iris Garden at 3 pm. We will go to a nearby convenience store and get some food and drink to have a party and park fun in Mizumoto Park. Latecomers are welcome to join us at Mizumoto Park anytime after 3 pm.

 In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

Totoro Forest Hiking & Iris Festival!

Meeting Place/Time: MusashiYamato Station at 11:22 am

Course: MusashiYamato Station – Sayama Park – Totoro Forest – Hakkoku Green Area – Kitayama Park (Iris Festival) – Higashi Murayama Station (Shinjuku Line)

Actual walking time is about 3 hours, going to Totoro Forest and finishing off at KItayama park (festival) where 100,000 irises are expected to be blooming from the beginning to the middle of June.  (June 4th is the first day of Iris Festival).

The largest highland marshland is known for alpine plants such as the Asian skunk cabbage. The threshold is a bit far, but this course is good even for children and seniors.

Meeting Time/Place: 9:30 Aizu Line Aizu-Kogen-Oze-Guchi Station Ticket Gate
We will take a bus at 9:40.

The buses are not running frequently so we cannot wait for the next bus.

Train: If you are coming from Asakusa, take the 6:30 Tobu Line limited express train from Asakusa Station (going towards Aizu-Tajima). This arrives at Aizu Line Aizu-Kogen-Oze-Guchi Station at 9:23.

Course: Numayama-Toge Bus Stop – Numayama-Toge Observation Deck – Oe Marsh – Kobuchi-Tashiro Juncture – Visitor Center – Kamappori Marsh – Oe Marsh Juncture – Numayama-Toge Observation Deck – Numayama-Toge Bus Stop
We will take a bus at 15:50.

Train: If you are going back to Asakusa,  take the 18:06 Aizu Line limited express train from Aizu-Kogen-Oze-Guchi Station (going towardsAsakusa). This arrives at Tobu Line Asakusa Station at 21:05.

Walking Time : About 4 hours. (7km)

Mt. Ougi Hiking

(Participation Fee 1000 yen)(Intermediate-Advanced Course) (Cancelled in case of rain)
Meeting Place/Time: Torisawa Station Ticket Gate at 9:55 am

Train: Takao Departure – 9:24 on the Chuo Line train (towards Kofu) – 9:52 Arrive at Torisawa Station

Trains are not running frequently.  Since we can’t wait for the next train, we won’t be able to attend to latecomers.  Please arrive by the appointed time.

Course: JR Torisawa Station – Mt. Ougi (1138 m) – Mt. Okubo (1109 m) – JR Torisawa Station

Hiking time: about 5 hour

The top of Mt. Ougi is very spacious with a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji.
Please bring your lunch and drink.  Also, please wear the proper shoes for a hike.
