Edogawa River Clean Up

Edogawa River Clean Up (organized by Tokyo River Friends)

Details
Gather at Barakinakayama Station: 13:00
Go to the river by car: 13:10
River Clean Up: 13:30
Relaxing riverside: 17:30-18:00
Return to station by Car: 18:00

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at Barakinakayama Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00., and then go to the Edogawa River by car and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 to 4 hours.

OPTIONAL MORNING SESSION
As I am often on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people welcome to join me at that time, but please make specific arrangements with me by e-mail, arrival time, location, etc. Also, members can clean at any time and even any date. Just bring some clear bags and sort the trash collected, buranable, PET, cans, bottles, nonburanble, etc. and let me know where you leave the bags so that we can collect them.

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa. Just walk to the river from the station and the head in the direction of Tokyo Bay until you see us along the water line. Also call James (organizer’s) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled. Let’s have fun enjoying our local nature while making it better at the same time.

Kanazawa Bunko – Kamakura Hike & Beach Sunset

(Intermediate)(Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Canceled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Kanazawa Bunko station at 9:45

Train: If you go from Yokohama: Yokohama Departure (Keihin Kyoko Express (going towards Misakiguchi) 9:28 – Kanazawa Bunko Arrival 9:44

Course: Kanazawa Bunko Station – Kanazawa Nature Park – Mt. Ohirayama – Tenen Hiking Course – Gionyama Hiking Course – Yuigahama Beach (Sunset & Farewell 2021 drink)

Walking Time: About 5.5 hours

Bring your own lunch and drinks and wear comfortable shoes for a hike.

Environmental Project at Tama Zoo

(Cancelled in case of 70% or more chance of rain)

If you would like to participate, please inform David (at jambodave@green.email.ne.jp) by December 9 (Thursday) so that we can get volunteer insurance.<

Meeting place and time: 9:30 am at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s station (Tama Dobutsukoen).

Cost: FREE

Train: If you are going from Shinjuku, take the 8:37 Keio Line Super-express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:12) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Koen Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:15 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:20.

Work hour: 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
The main types of work are cutting down bamboo grass and raking leaves.

Things to bring: Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.

Course:  Ogikubo Station – Amanuma Overpass – Aurora Monument – Gandhi Statue – Seiko Lodging – Otaguro Park – Kadokawa Garden/Gengi Sanbo – Tekigaiso Park – Chudoji Temple – Yosano Park – Meiji Emperor’s Gate – Ogikubo Station

Walking Time: About 2 hours (5km).

MORNING SESSION (optional)
As I will be on the river in the morning doing some scouting and precleaning, people, who may not be free in the afternoon, are welcome to join me at that time. Please go directly to the river as well as call James (the organizer) (090-1847-5075) to coordinate a meeting place.

INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the river at the waterline between the Shinjuku Line train bridge and the Kasaibashi Bridge. Also call James cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will use rain ware and take cover as necessary. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled or stopped if already in progress. Let’s have fun enjoying our local nature while making it better at the same time.

Ranzan Gorge Fall Color HIKING

(Intermediate Course) (Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Ogawamachi Station Ticket Gate at 9:22 am
Please make sure to come at the appointed time.

Course:  Ogawamachi Station – Mt. Sengen – Mt.Shiro-yama – Mt. Monomi – Ranzan Gorge – Mt. Ohira – MusashiRanzan Station

Train: From Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo (Express) Line’s 8:10 am train and get off at Ogawamachi Station, arriving at 9:20 am.

We will have a 5-6 hour walk up a few small mountains and into a gorge. Please wear appropriate shoes for a hike and bring a lunch and plenty of liquids.

If you come late, it will be about a 25 min. walk to our location about 200-300 meters or so from the Shinjuku Line Bridge (near the dirty angle). Call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

Hakone Fall Colors Hike

(participation fee 1000 yen)(intermediate course) (Canceled in case of rain)

Meeting Time/Place: 9:48 am at the gate of Hakone-yumoto station (Hakone Tozan Line)

Please make sure to meet at the appointed time since we won’t be able to attend to the late comers for this hike (in order to catch a bus from Hakone-yumoto station and the buses are not running frequently)

Train: Shinjuku Departure  (Odakyu Line (Express going towards Odawara)  7:50 – Odawara Arrival  9:26 (change to the Hakone Tozan Line) – Hakone Tozan Line Departure  9:30 – Hakoneyumoto Arrival – 9:45

Please don’t be late since we MUST catch the 10:10 am bus (Hakone-tozan bus bound for Motohakone-ko) going to Hatajuku from Hakoneyumoto station (15 minutes, 400 yen).

Hike course: Hatajuku – Hiryu Falls – Mt.Takanosu (834 m) – Mt. Sengen – Shiroyama – Hakoneyumoto  (about 4 and a half hours)

Please bring your food and drink and wear the proper shoes for a hike.

Especially, the red and yellow (maples) leaves should be so wonderful.
There are a lot of good hot springs in Hakone area.  Please feel free to go after a hike if you like (Please bring change of clothes and towels).

Hatonosu Gorge Fall Colors Hiking

(Easy) (Cancelled in case of rain)(Participation Fee 1000 yen)

Meeting Place/Time: Hatonosu Station ticket gate at 10:50 am

Train: From Oume, take the Oume line train going towards Okutama, leaving at 10:13 and arriving in Hatonosu at 10:47.

Trains are not running frequently and we won’t be able to wait for the next train.  Please make sure to meet at the appointed time since we won’t be able to attend to the latecomers.

Course: Hatonosu Station – Hatonosu Gorge – Shiromaru Dam – Mt. Atago – Okutama Station

Sagamiko Lake – Mt. Takao Hiking

(Intermediate Course・Participation Fee 1000 yen・Canceled in case of rain)

Meeting place and time: We will meet at the Sagamiko Station ticket gate at 9:35 am

Train Schedule: 9:24 Leave Takao Station on the JR Chuo Line (going towards Kofu) – 9:32 Arrive at Sagamiko Station

Trains are not running frequently and we won’t be able to wait for the next train.  Please make sure to meet at the appointed time since we won’t be able to attend to latecomers.

We will hike from Sagami Lake to Mt. Takao (about a 4 hour hike).

Please bring your lunch and drink.  Also, please wear the appropriate shoes for a hike.

The Takao Beer Garden (Mt. Takao Beer Mount) is open until the end of the month! We will not make reservations as a Jambo group, so for those who want to go, please go there and enjoy it. We plan to arrive there around 2:30 – 3:00 pm. Since the restaurant only allows groups of 4 at each table (to protect against Corona), you’re free to find others who you want to sit with and leave with together. Jambo will not be organizing the groups – that is up to each person who is going.  Please understand that we won’t know about how crowded it is or the waiting time required until we arrive there.
