Meeting Place and time: 9:47 am at Utsugidai Bus Stop
Those who wish to go with David,  please meet at Hino Station (on the Chuo Line) ticket gate at 9:27.  We will take the 9:32 bus from there (15 minutes).

Work hours: 10:00 – 15:30
 (Splitting wood, carrying logs, etc)
Please wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt and exercise shoes. Please bring your own drinks, food (for lunch) and work gloves.

(1) The first hike of 2023 Tanzawa Hiking
(1000 yen participation fee for either the morning walk or afternoon or for the whole day) (Canceled in case of rain).

There will be 2 parts in this event. Feel free to come to a walk in the morning or a hike in the afternoon or both. After the event starts, we won’t be checking messages. Please call us at 080-6546-7688 if you need to reach us.

 

(Part 1) Tanzawa Walk (easy course)
Meeting Place/Time
: Shibusawa Station at 8:50 am

Train: Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train. We need to meet the group in the afternoon on time so we will start a walk as scheduled.

Take the 7:41 am Odakyu Line Express train from Shinjuku Station (going towards Odawara). This arrives at Shibusawa Station at 8:49.

From here, we walk up into the Shibusawa Hills, then down to Hadano Station, where we will meet other people who are joining for the 2nd hike.

Course:Shibusawa station → Shibusawa Hills → Asama dai (221m) → Hadano Station (about 3 hours)

 

(Part 2)Tanzawa Hiking
Meeting Place and Time: The ticket gate of Hadano Station (on the Odakyuu Line) at 12:07 pm

Train: For those going there from Shinjuku, board the 11:01 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku (going towards Odawara). This arrives in Hadano at 12:05.

Course: Hadano Station – Mt.Gongen – Mt.Koubou – Mt. Azuma – Tsurumaki Onsen Station (about 3 hours)

After a hike, for those who want to go to onsen, we will stop by the hot springs: Sazanka hotspring (¥900)

Meeting place and time: Ticket gate of Higashi Zushi Station at 10:00 am

Train: 9:53 Leave at Zushi station (JR Yokosuka Line going towards Kurihama) – 9:56 Arrive at Higashi Zushi station

The hiking time is about 5 hours.

Course: Higashi Zushi Station – Batou Goddess of Mercy – Morito Forest Path – Mt. Sengen Hiking Course – Morito Beach (sunset and last cheers of 2022) – Zushi-hayama Station

The sunset will be around 4:30 and the event will be over after that.

Gather at Myoden Station (Tozai Line) outside the only ticket gate at 13:00, and then go to the Edogawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3.5 to 4 hours.

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location on the opposite side of the river from the Clean Spa under the bay front bridges. Just walk to the river from the station and the head to the orange bridge. Also call James’ (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847 5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

Tokyo Area Green Course Walk

(Participation Fee – 1000 yen) (Will be held even in light rain)(Easy Course)

Meeting Place&Time: Takahatafudo Station (Keio Line) at 11:05 am

Train:  From Shinjuku station, take the Keio Line (Express) train at 10:30 am going towards Takao Sanguchi and get off at Takahatafudo Station at 11:03 am.

Course:  Takahatafudo Station (Keio Line) – Takahatafudo-son Temple  – Katarai Path – Tama Zoo Park (Tama-Dobutsu-Koen) Station – Mogusaen (Japanese Maple trees) – Nanao Hills Walking Course  – Mogusaen Station  (Walking Time: About 4 Hours (10 km)

From Takahatafudo-son Temple, we will walk to Tama Zoo (Tama-Dobutsu-Koen) Station using mostly a nature course, arriving at about 1:30 pm. If you want to join from this point, please arrive at the station by 1:30 pm. And if anyone wants to quit the walk here to go home
or go to the zoo, you may do so. From here, we walk on Mogusaen (Maple trees) and the Nanao Hills Walking Course to Mogusaen Station (on the Keio Line). We plan to finish at 4:15 pm.

Meeting Time & Place: 9:18 am at Agano’s ticket gate

Train: Please be noted that we won’t be able to wait for the next train and attend to the latecomers since the trains are not running frequently and this hike is a long one (we need to start a hike as scheduled).  Please come to the meeting place by the appointed time.

For those going from Ikebukuro, take the following train:

Ikebukuro Departure 8:00 (Seibu Ikebukuro・Express going towards Hanno) ⇒  Hanno Arrival 8:48 ⇒ Hanno Departure (Seibu Chichibu Line going towards Misakiguchi) 8:53 ⇒  Agano Station Arrival 9:15

Course (from Agano Station): Kaaburi Pass – Kasasugi Pass – Kuroyama Santaki –  Ogose Station (on the Tobu Tojo Line)

Walking Time: About 6 hours

Note: Kuroyama Santaki was once a training center for monks who practice asceticism, but now it has become a sightseeing spot for hikers.

Please wear appropriate shoes and  bring lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

(2) Fall Color Walk in Ogikubo
(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of heavy rain)

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of  former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.

Johnson Town Walk & 2) Arakawa River Clean Up (Separate Events)

It’s an easy day trip from Tokyo. U. S. Air Force housing became a small community where you feel like walking through a vintage American town. Let’s explore taste of life in suburban America.

☆The program is ¥1000.

Meeting Time/Place:  10:30 am at the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Irumashi Station ticket gate

Course: Irumashi Station – Old Ishikawagumi Seishi Western Style Building – Iruma Air Base – Sainomori Iruma Park – Johnson Town – Irumashi Station

Walking Time: About 1 hour (3km) plus a lot of time for shopping and sightseeing so the walk should take about 2 hours. You can buy food and drink on the way.
