Tokyo Area Green Course Walk

Meeting Place&Time: Takahatafudo Station (Keio Line) at 11:05 am

Train:  From Shinjuku station, take the Keio Line (Express) train at 10:30 am going towards Takao Sanguchi and get off at Takahatafudo Station at 11:03 am.

Course:  Takahatafudo Station (Keio Line) – Takahatafudo-son Temple  – Katarai Path – Tama Zoo Park (Tama-Dobutsu-Koen) Station – Mogusaen (Japanese Maple trees) – Nanao Hills Walking Course  – Mogusaen Station  (Walking Time: About 4 Hours (10 km)

From Takahatafudo-son Temple, we will walk to Tama Zoo (Tama-Dobutsu-Koen) Station using mostly a nature course, arriving at about 1:30 pm. If you want to join from this point, please arrive at the station by 1:30 pm. And if anyone wants to quit the walk here to go home
or go to the zoo, you may do so. From here, we walk on Mogusaen (Maple trees) and the Nanao Hills Walking Course to Mogusaen Station (on the Keio Line). We plan to finish at 4:15 pm.

Train: Please be noted that we won’t be able to wait for the next train and attend to the latecomers since the trains are not running frequently and this hike is a long one (we need to start a hike as scheduled).  Please come to the meeting place by the appointed time.

Course (from Agano Station): Kaaburi Pass – Kasasugi Pass – Kuroyama Santaki –  Ogose Station (on the Tobu Tojo Line)

Walking Time: About 6 hours

Note: Kuroyama Santaki was once a training center for monks who practice asceticism, but now it has become a sightseeing spot for hikers.

Please wear appropriate shoes and  bring lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

(2) Fall Color Walk in Ogikubo

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of  former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.

It’s an easy day trip from Tokyo. U. S. Air Force housing became a small community where you feel like walking through a vintage American town. Let’s explore taste of life in suburban America.

Course: Irumashi Station – Old Ishikawagumi Seishi Western Style Building – Iruma Air Base – Sainomori Iruma Park – Johnson Town – Irumashi Station

Walking Time: About 1 hour (3km) plus a lot of time for shopping and sightseeing so the walk should take about 2 hours. You can buy food and drink on the way.

12:00 – Finish up

1) Earth Day Bike Ride

An enjoyable ride to Tama Lake with the fall colors of Musashino! (Those who need to rent a bike MUST RESERVE)

We will ride mostly along the bike path which goes out to Tama Lake (starting at Mitaka Station) and get lunch at the veggie stands and supermarket along the way. We’ll stop at parks here and there along the way to take a walk or play frisbee, then have lunch at the park which is on Tama Lake. After that, you have the option of riding to Kitayama Park or Tama lake.

Meeting Place and time: For those renting bikes on that day, meet at the police box on the south side of Mitaka Station at 9:30 am.

We will go to the bike shop from there to pick up the bicycles (300 yen – Please bring the exact amount on the event day if possible). (Others who come with their own bikes can meet at 10:00 at the same police box).

Since we have to reserve for the group through Mitaka City, we need the following information from those reserving bicycles:

Train:  Please make sure to come by the appointed time.  Trains are not running frequently and we can’t wait for the next train and attend to the latecomers.

Course: Tobu Takezawa Station – Mt. Kinsho – Tenno Marsh  Mt. Kannokurayama –  Mt.Sekison – Ogawawamachi Station
We will have a 5 hour hike that takes us up 3 low mountains (250m – 450m) and next to a marsh.

Nogawa Walking Course & Jindaiji Temple area & Botanical Park

Nogawa Walking Course & Jindaiji Temple area & Botanical Park (Rose Garden & Chrysanthemums Show)!

(EASY)(¥1000 Participation Fee (Children free) (¥500 Park Entrance Fee) (Will be held even in light rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Chuo Line’s Higashi Koganei Station’s South Exit at 9:00 am

Train: Shinjuku Departure – 8:39 (Chuo Line Super Express train going towardsTakao), Mitaka Arrival – 8:51,  (change trains), Mitaka Departure – 8:53 (Chuo Express going towards Takao).  This arrives at Higashi Koganei at 8:57.

This is an 6 km course that runs through the suburbs and about half of the walk is along the Nogawa River.  We arrive at Jindaiji temple before noon, where we can enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere and have its famous soba noodles if you’d like (or you can bring/buy your own lunch and eat it outside as well).

We then finish up at Jindai Botanical Park, where there’s a Chrysanthemums Show and rose garden.  The entrance fee to the park is ¥500 for adults, ¥250 for those over 65 and¥200 those 15 years and younger.
