1) Mt. Tsukuba Hiking & Party
(Intermediate Course)(Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Hiking is cancelled in case of rain, but the party is still on)

Meeting Time & Place: 8:49 am at Tsukuba Station’s ticket gate

Since we need to take a bus after arriving at the station, we can’t wait for the next train and attend to latecomers. Please make sure to arrive by the appointed time.

Train: If you are going from Kita Senju, take the Tsukuba Express Train (Express towards Tsukuba) at Kita Senju at 8:13. This arrives at Tsukuba (the final destination) at 8:47 and costs 1,050 yen.

We will take the 9:00 bus from Tsukuba Station to Tsukubasan-Jinja-Iriguchi (36 minutes, 740 yen), and hike up Mt. Tsukuba (877 m・altitude difference 610 m). The hiking time is about 5 hours.  Then, we’ll go back to Tsukuba Station.

Please bring lunch and drinks.  Also, please put on good shoes for hiking.

★ Party

For those who want to go to the party after the hike, we hope to take the 16:42 train from Tsukuba station to Yashio station (on the Tsukuba Express, arriving at 17:19) and go to Herman’s (David and Miki’s Canadian friend) nice place for a fun-filled party (Togasaki 3119-2, Misato-Shi, Saitama 341-0044).  His house is a 20-25 minute walk from Yashio Station.

People who only want to go to the party (or if the hike is canceled) should meet at Yashio Station’s ticket gate at 17:20. If the hiking group isn’t there at that time (ex. If the group misses the train) or if you come late, please call Herman at 080-4140-6470. He’ll have our information.

Party fee: 500 yen (for order-out pizza) and BYO (Bring Your Own) style basically.  Please bring whatever snacks and drinks you want.  We can buy food and drink near the station.

From Oume Station, take the 11:14 train towards Okutama.  This train arrives at Miyanohira Station at 11:16.

Course: Miyanohira Station – Oume Ridge Hiking Course – Shiofune Kannon Temple and Kasumikyuryo Natural Park – HIgashi Oume Station (Hiking time: About 3 hours)

Let’s enjoy an Earth Day Bike Ride from Yoyogi Park around the city! We will start and finish at Yoyogi Park, riding around the city.

Appreciate the Earth, and Enjoy Earth Day! It has been 20 years since the first “Earth Day & Jambo ” bike ride. Great chance to rediscover Tokyo and share memories at Yoyogi Park.  This course will pass through a host of parks while riding through many green areas of Tokyo.  Let’s explore the connection of parks while finding natural areas in the city from the cyclist’s perspective. We’ll enjoy getting exercise cycling, walking in the parks, playing frisbee, etc and enjoy having a picnic lunch in the city’s oasis.

Meeting Time and Place: 10:00 am at Yoyogi Park’s Central Lawn (near the fountain (shown in pink on the map)

Bicycle: Participants are asked to bring bicycles (either their own or from a bicycle rental or share bike)

If you are interested in a Bike Share Service (Docomo),  you can rent from it ONLY IF you pre-register. Check https://docomo-cycle.jp/tokyo/?lang=en where you must register online beforehand in order to use their bikes. There are many places in the Shibuya area where you can pick up these bicycles, so please check beforehand.  For you cyclists, this is a wonderful thing to sign up on as you can pick-up/drop-off the bikes at many locations around Tokyo

Things to bring: Food and drink, things to play with (frisbee, ball, and so on), ground sheet, etc.
You can also buy lunch stuff for the picnic along the way.

Helmets are recommended for participants.

If you are coming from Shinjuku (Odakyu line train going to Odawara) 8:01  – Shinmatsuda station (arrives at 9:16) – Matsuda Station (JR Gotemba Line to Gotenba) (leaves at 9:27) – Suruga-Oyama Station (arrives at 9:45)

Course: Suruga-Oyama station – Furounotaki waterfall – Mt. Furou – Tani-ga-yama- Suruga-Oyama station

Expected hiking time: 6 hours

Please make sure to wear the appropriate shoes for a hike and also bring lunch and drinks.

In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. Meeting Place and time: 9:47 am at Utsugidai Bus Stop
Those who wish to go with David,  please meet at Hino Station (on the Chuo Line) ticket gate at 9:27.  We will take the 9:32 bus from there (15 minutes).

Work hours: 10:00 – 15:30
 (Splitting wood, carrying logs, looking for/digging up bamboo shoots)
Please wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt and exercise shoes. Please bring your own drinks, food (for lunch) and work gloves.

(2) Yanesen Azalea Walk  (Easy)

There are plenty of old temples and old buildings from the Edo Period still standing in Yanesen. The azalea garden at Nezu Shrine has over 3,000 flowers and 100 varieties of Azalea that bloom from early April until early May. Bunkyo Azalea Festival will be held on a reduced scale.

Meeting Time/Place: 15:00 JR Nippori Station north ticket gate

Course: Nippori Station – Yanaka Ginza – Zenshoan Temple – SCAI THE BATHHOUSE – Shitamachi Museum Annex – Nezu Shrine – Nezu Station

Walking Time: About 1 hour (3km) plus a lot of time for shopping and sightseeing so the walk should take about 2 hours.

Chidorigafuchi Night Cherry Blossom Viewing

It seems that there will be no food stands at Yasukuni Shrine (too bad!) so we will stay longer than planned at Kitanomaru Park for the party. (We can walk around Chidorigafuchi to see some cherry blossom light-up after the party if we have time).
