Meeting Place and Time: The ticket gate of Tsurumaki Onsen Station (on the Odakyuu Line) at 11:00 AM

Train: For those going there from Shinjuku, board the 10:01 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku (going towards Odawara). This arrives in TsurumakiOnsen at 10:59.

Course: Tsurumaki Onsen Station – Mt. Azuma – Mt.Koubou – Mt.Gongen – Yukaraku Onsen – Shibusawa Station (about 4 hours)

After the hike, for those who want to go to onsen, we will stop by the hot springs: Yukaraku hotsprings  (¥950)

Gather at Kojimashinden Station outside the only ticket gate at 13:00 and then go to the Tamagawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3.5 to 4 hours.

If you come late, it will be about a 25-min walk to our location under or near the new Tamagawa Sky Bridge (But walk straight to the river first as there is no access from the bridge.) Also call James (the organizer) cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled as we will move to and from the river by car and we can clean up under cover the bay front bridges as a Plan B as well as adjacent areas using rain ware. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled.

1)Chichibu Hike

(1000 yen Participation Fee) (Intermediate Course)(Canceled in case of rain.)

Meeting Place/Time: Agano Station at 10:30 am

Train: Trains are infrequent, only once every 30 minutes or so.  We can’t attend to latecomers and we also need to start a hike as scheduled.  Be sure to take this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

Hanno Station Departure – 10:05 (Seibu Chichibu line train going towards Seibu Chichibu), Agano Station Arrival – 10:28

Course: Agano Station – Maesaka – Mt. Ootaka – Mt. Tenkaku – Mt. Kamado – MusashiYokote Station.  The hiking time is about 4.5  hours.

Please bring your lunch and drinks.  Also please put on shoes appropriate for the hike.

 

2) Illumination & The end of the year party

We will have an end-of-the-year party at a Japanese Pub (from 7:00 pm) in Ikebukuro.

Reservations Deadline: By December 15 (Fri) 1 pm

You can only reserve for yourself in an email, so you cannot reserve for someone else. First 20 people will be accepted.  Please understand that we cannot increase the number of people after the deadline (including the day of the event) as this is a very busy season for Izakaya. Also, we apologize for not being able to keep a waiting list.

Environmental Restoration Project with Friends of the Earth

Those who wish to go with David,  please meet at Hino Station (on the Chuo Line) ticket gate at 9:27.  We will take the 9:32 bus from there (15 minutes).

2) Fall Color Walk in Ogikubo

(¥1000 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of heavy rain)

Have a blast with fall color. Otaguro Park is a lovely layout, with viewing pavilions, stone bridges, a pond, a waterfall, and a variety of color. Then you will find Kadokawa Garden and Gengi Sanbo Suginami Poetry House (a modern Sukiya-style Japanese house, designated as a national tangible cultural asset). The residence of Kadokawa Genyoshi, the founder of Kadokawa Shoten Publishing & Co., is open to the public. Tekigai Villa, the residence of former Prime Minister Konoe Fumimaro, was used to hold a number of important meetings in an attempt to avoid war with the US.

Ranzan Gorge Fall Color Hiking

(Intermediate Course) (Participation Fee 1000 yen) (Cancelled in case of rain)

Meeting Place/Time: Ogawamachi Station Ticket Gate at 9:42 am
Please make sure to come at the appointed time.

Train: If you are coming from Ikebukuro, take the Tobu Tojo (Express towards Kawagoe-shi) Line’s 8:30 am train and get off at Wakoshi (arriving at 8:42). Change to the 8:43 Tobu Tojo F Liner going towards Ogawamachi) and get off at Ogawamachi Station, arriving at 9:40 am.

Ranzan Gorge is well-known for its beautiful maple trees!

Course:  Ogawamachi Station – Mt. Sengen (299m) – Mt.Shiro-yama – Mt. Monomi –Ranzan Gorge  – MusashiRanzan Station
We will have a 5 hour walk up a few small mountains (with the highest being 299m) and into a gorge.

Please wear appropriate shoes for a hike and bring a lunch and plenty of liquids.
