As this is the January essay, you may expect an essay on the symbolism of this year’s zodiac animal. Perhaps a review of the previous year’s ever-flowing stream of Jambo events. While recognition is due to everyone who contributed their time, money and energy to Jambo, there is a really urgent matter that has to be taken care of.

David is taking a sabbatical leave starting at the end of January to give his leg some care it deserves. It will be a trying time for Jambo as a community. Can we keep the spirit alive while our founder is away? The upcoming months are up to us. The schedule is open for anyone with event ideas and causes they would like to support. It doesn’t have to be a hike. You can organize a house party, a picnic in the park, a bicycle ride around your area, or a workshop of your favorite hobby: yoga, juggling, cooking, birdwatching or ethnic dance. You can set the fees and decide a cause they go to. Jambo can cover your initial costs. All we ask is that you keep the Jambo rules: all inclusive, environmentally friendly, having fun, doing good.

If you have ideas and would like to help, or if you’re not sure and want to ask some questions, there will be a meeting and open house on January 17th in Jambo School, where David will give tips on how to organize a great event. Help keep the spirit of Jambo alive!
