JAMBO (Japan) Funds (How they are made and how they are used)

Jambo Japan funds come almost entirely from the Jambo events. The volunteer events are free (so leaders receive no payment) and other events usually incur a fee (decided upon by the leader).

In order to encourage people to become leaders (and help make Jambo more self-sustaining), Jambo started a program in 2012 requiring leaders to take half of the total charged payment (from which they pay their own transport, participation fee, etc) for any event they hold. The rest goes into the Jambo bank account, and is used for the charity of the month and expenses concerning Jambo (websites, social media, etc – there are no paid staff or office payments in Jambo).

Jambo International Inc. (our international parent organization) gets funds from donations. Until 2019, most donations came from Jambo Japan (100% of which are used as grants to the organizations we support) and David Howenstein’s personal donations (mainly using money he gets as a Jambo Leader). The following shows money made by organizers (mostly David) in Japan and personal donations made by David (separate from Jambo Japan donations) to Jambo US.
