All of us have attended school at some time in our lives, and we tend to think of it as a place where we sit in a classroom and learn things. This can indeed be an important part of learning, but if we define school as “a place to learn,” our whole life experience and everywhere we go is a school.

I questioned what a school should be like when I started JAMBO School this month. Mostly, JAMBO School is an English school, teaching English conversation to adults in the classroom. However, just as important, it provides students with opportunities outside of the classroom to use their English. It does this through monthly student activities where only English is used for a portion of each activity, and by encouraging students to take part in JAMBO International activities, where many people speak English.

JAMBO School (a business) is completely separate from JAMBO International (a charity and do-good organization). Yet, they share many commonalities. The JAMBO School diagram shows “Learning, Connecting with Others, Having Fun” while JAMBO International’s motto is “Having Fun Doing Good.” I hope that the two organizations can benefit each other. JAMBO School students can learn more about the environment, volunteering and and having fun in the outdoors and with various kinds of people through JAMBO International. JAMBO International people can check out the JAMBO School HP (http://jamboschool.jp/) to have fun learning English (or Japanese) and sign up for free to receive updates on “Fun with English” and school programs.

CONNECTING – That’s what it’s all about!!!
