Meeting Time & Place: 10:55AM at Kakemori Station’s ticket gate

Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Express train from Ikebukuro Station at 8:49AM. This arrives at Hanno Station (the final destination) at 9:38AM. Change here to the Seibu Chichibu Line (which leaves at 9:43) and get off at Seibu Chichibu Station (the last stop) (arriving at 10:32AM). We’ll walk from there to the Chichibu Tetsudo Line’s Ohanabatake Station and take the 10:49 train there, arriving at Kakemori Station at 10:53AM. The total train cost from Ikebukuro is \910.

Meet on the front of the 8:49 train at Ikebukuro if you want to go from there.

Hiking Course: Kekemori Station – Muze Park (a huge, forested park with plum trees, a spring, observation tower) – Music Shrine – Chichibu Temple – Seibu Chichibu Station The hiking time is about 4 hours.

If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 9:11 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station.

David will get on the first car at the next station (Yoyogi Uehara).

Walking Time: About Four Hours

Schedule:
11:15 – 12:00 – First Ohanami near Yaga Station (while eating an early lunch)
12:00 – 17:00 – Mt. Ohno Hike
17:00 – 2nd Cherry Blossom Viewing at Yamakita Railroad Park (There’s a cherry tree tunnel which is lit up from 18:00)

There’s a convenience store about a 10 minute walk from Yamakita Station.

We will have a 5-6 hour hike on this course with nice views and beautiful forests. There’s also a place where we scale a rock wall with a gentle incline (not dangerous at all) using a chain.

Course: Shomaru Station – Shoumaru Pass – Izu Peak – Agano Station

From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s 8:05AM train (going towards Chichibu) and get off at Shomaru Station, arriving at 9:23AM. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one. We’ll meet at the ticket gate there at 9:25AM.

Meet on the front of the 8:05 train at Ikebukuro if you want to go from there.

Misakiguchi station

We will go to Arasaki on the Miura Peninsula. This is a coastline hike with nice sea views, beaches and caves. We will meet at Misakiguchi station on the Keihin Kyuko Line at 11:00AM. From Shinagawa station, take the 9:54AM Keihin Kyuko Line train bound for Misaki-guchi. Get off at the last station (Misakiguchi). It arrives there at 10:59AM. This is an easy hike, so bring a plastic bag and let’s pick up garbage along the way.

Meet at the ticket gate of MisakiGuchi station on the Keihin Kyuko line at 11:00AM or Shinagawa station (meet at the front of the Keihin Kyuko platform at 9:50 and take the 9:54 train which arrives at MisakiGuchi at 10:59. David will be on that train.)

Bring food for lunch and drinks.

JAMBO will provide barbecue equipment in the park. People should bring picnic food and drinks (Christmas party sharing rules apply) and whatever meat and veggies they want to have grilled. Benches are sparse, bring blankets.

The park is very interesting for children (GIANT INSECTS CLIMBING EQUIPMENT), lots of space for frisbee, rollerskating, skateboarding, walking.

There’s a DAIEI store near the station and two convience stores between the station and the park, so you can buy your food after arriving at the station. We will be based in the park by the GIANT INSECTS. Impossible to miss.

Volunteer Experience

Meet at 9:25AM at the front main entrance of Tama Zoo’s station (TamaDobutsukoen).

Take the 8:40AM Keio Line express from Shinjuku to Takahatafudo (arriving at 9:13AM) and change to the Keio Dobutsu Line train, leaving Takahatafudo at 9:18 and arriving at Tama Dobutsu Koen Station at 9:22AM. If you would like to participate, please inform David by April 30 so that we can get volunteer insurance.

If you join this event, please bring the following:

Long sleeved shirt and long pants (not shorts), work gloves, towel, and appropriate shoes (trekking shoes or hiking boots) are required.

Please bring whatever you want to eat for lunch, and drinks during the work project.

Hiking in Chichibu! (Hitsujiyama Park with many colored beautiful “grass flowered carpet”)

(Bring your own beverages and lunch box)

We will meet at Seibu Chichibu Station’s ticket gate at 11:00AM or on the middle of the Seibu Ikebukuro Line platform at Ikebukuro Station at 9:00AM. Take the 9:05AM Seibu Ikebukuro Line express train (going towards Hanno) at Ikebukuro Station. This arrives at Hanno Station at 10:01AM. From here, take the 10:04AM Seibu Chichibu Line train going towards Chichibu. This arrives at Chichibu Station at 10:57AM. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train.

Actual walking time is about 4 hours, eventually going to Hitsugiyama Park, where the different colored flowers of the “grass sakura” are in bloom and form a large carpet of beauty, and end up at Seibu Chichibu Station.

OUME HIKING & AZALEA FESTIVAL! (Intermediate Course) (\500 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of rain) NEW!

We meet at Miyanohira Station at 10:15AM. Take the 9:08AM Oume Line Express train (it’s a Chuo Line train that goes all the way to Oume) from Shinjuku Station. This arrives at Oume Station at 10:07. Go across the platform and take the 10:09 train towards Okutama. This train arrives at MiyanoHira Station at 10:12. Be sure to arrive by this time since we will be unable to wait for the next train.

Today’s hiking is about 5 hours. It finishes off at the Shiofune Temple, which has 17,000 red, white and purple Azaleas. Should be gorgeous!!!

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

Nogawa Walking Course & Jindai Botanical Park Spring Rose Festival! (EASY)(¥500 Participation Fee + ¥500 Park Entrance Fee) (Cancelled in case of rain) NEW!

Meeting Place/Time: Chuo Line’s Musashi Koganei Station’s South Exit at 10:25AM

Take the 10:02AM Chuo Line Express train from Shinjuku Station. This arrives at Musashi Koganei at 10:24.

This is an 8 km course that runs through the suburbs and about 2/3 of the walk is along the Nogawa River. We finish up at Jindai Botanical Park, where there’s a Spring Rose Festival. The entrance fee to the park is ¥500 for adults, ¥500 for those over 65 and ¥500 those 15 years and younger. We’ll be able to enjoy 272 kinds of roses as well as concert performances. Mt. Kuki Hiking Course (A bit difficult, 970m)

Kasei Station (Fuji Kyuko Line)- Mt. Fuji Lookout – Mt. Kuki – Mt. Gozen – Sarubashi Station (Chuo Line)

Take the Chuo Line (Special Express) at 7:35AM from Shinjuku Station (going towards Takao). This arrives at Takao at 8:18. Change at Takao Station to the Chuo Line (going towards Kofu), leaving at 8:20. Take this to Ootsuki Station, arriving at 8:57AM. At Otsuki, change to the Fuji Kyuko Line (towards Kawaguchi-ko) and take the 9:02 train, which arrives at Kasei Station at 9:12. The Chuo Line cost comes to 1280 yen and the Fuji Kyuko Line costs 290 yen.

Meeting Place/Time: Kasei Station (Fuji Kyuko Line) Ticket Gate 9:15AM

June 6 (Sunday) Hike in Tanzawa – Mt. Sannotou (1205M) (Average) Participation Fee 500 yen)(Canceled in case of rain)

Bring your own beverages and lunch box.

Hadano Station – Yabitsu Pass (by bus) – Mt. Ninotou – Mt Sannotou – Usikubi – Okura – Hadano Togawa Park (where the Hydrongea may be in bloom) – Shibusawa Station (15 minutes by bus)

The total walking time for the hike will be about five hours.

Take the following train!
Shinjuku Station (Odakyu Line Express) 7:50AM – Hadano (arriving at 9:02AM)

If you’d like to go from Shinjuku, get on the front of the 7:50 Odakyu Line train at Shinjuku Station.
David will get on the first car at that same train at Shimo Kitazawa Station.

We will meet at the gate ofHadano station (Odakyu line) at9:05 AM and take the bus which leaves for Yabitsu Pass from Hadano Station at 9:20 AM.

Please remember, this bus for climbers is the final one to get there, so DEFINITELY get on the above train.

The view from the peak of Mt Sannotou is quite outstanding, which means we should be able to enjoy a splendid panorama.

We will meet at Seibu Ikebukuro Line’s Shimoyamaguchi Station’s ticket gate at 10:50AM or at the front of the Seibu Ikebukuro Line platform at Ikebukuro Station at 10:07AM. Take the 10:10AM Seibu Ikebukuro Line express train (going towards Seibu Kyuujoumae) at Ikebukuro Station. This arrives at Shimoyamaguchi Station at 10:46AM. (360 yen)

August 7 (Saturday) – Chiba Inner Coast Camping & Beach Fun!!! NEW!!!

(Participation Fee 500 yen (includes Sunday) + 500 yen Camping Fee) (Cancelled in case of rain)

We will go out to Haraoka Coast (Beach on the Tokyo Bay near Tomiura Station) on Saturday night. We will eat, drink and enjoy the beach that night as well as the next day.

Please bring your swimsuit, sleeping bag and tent (you can sleep directly on the sand, but may get eaten up by sand flies), beach toys, food and drink. (THERE IS NO PLACE TO BUY FOOD & DRINK AT NIGHT NEAR THE STATION!!!)

19:31 Leave Chiba Station on the Uchibo Line (Local)
21:28 – Arrive at Tomiura Station

You can meet David and others on the front of the Uchibo Line train at 19:31 in Chiba or at the ticket gate at Tomiura Station at 21:30.

Chuo Line Yanagawa Swimming & Mt. Takao Hike/Beer Garden

Meeting Place/Time: Yanagawa Station Ticket Gate at 10:15AM

We will relax on the Yanagawa River. You can stroll along the river and swim into a gorge, so bring your swimsuit and towel. After that, we will go back to Takao Station, hike up Mt. Takao and go to the Beer Garden there.

Tokyo/Kanagawa City Exploratory Green Course Walk

Course: Machida Station – Sagami Green Road – Komoregi Woods (Lunch) – Sagami Green Area – Minami Rinkan Station (Odakyuu Line)

We go through residential areas, fields and woods. There’s some walking on roads but mostly on designed city walking paths.

Walking Time: About 3 Hours (10KM) plus a lot of time for fun, so the hike should take about 5 hours.

From Shinjuku, take the Odakyu Express train (going towards Fujisawa) at 11:28AM and get off at Machida Station, arriving at 11:58AM. We’ll meet at the Machida Station’s (Odakyuu Line) South ticket gate at 12:00 noon.

People going from Shinjuku Station can meet at the front end of the 11:28 train. David will get on the front car of that train at Yoyogi Uehara Station.

After the hike, we’ll hang out on the riverside. The river is wide and calm so we can have a good time swimming (bring your swimsuit and towel). There’s also a convenience store nearby to buy food and drink. We should be there to see the sunset as well.

We will meet at the Hatonosu Station Ticket gate at 9:35AM. Take the Oume Line train from Tachikawa at 8:20AM. This arrives at Oume (the last stop) at 8:55. Cross the platform and take the 8:56 (Okutama bound) train. This arrives at Hatonosu at 9:32AM.

September 19 (Sunday) OKUTAMA CAMPING & RIVER FUN (Cancelled in case of rain)(Participation Fee 500 yen and camping fee 700 yen)

The Hikawa Campground is about a 10 minute walk from the station. We’ll buy food and drink at the nearby supermarket, go swimming, and enjoy the starry sky. If you have your own tent, no reservation is necessary. If you need to borrow a tent or want to stay in a bungalow there, you must contact the Okutama Hikawa Cammpground at 0428-83-2134 to reserve.

David will be at the Okutama Station ticket gate at 16:23 to bring you to the supermarket and the campground. From Shinjuku, take the Special Express train going towards Takao to Kokubunji (leaving Shinjuku at 14:36 and arriving at Kokubunji at 14:56. Change here to the Chuo Line express (going towards Oome) leaving at 14:58 and arriving in Oome at 15:39. Change to the Oume Line, going towards Okutama, leaving at 15:46 and arriving at Okutama (the last stop) at 16:23. We’ll meet at the ticket gate at 16:25.

From Shinjuku, take the Special Holiday Express train going towards Okutama (it’s the Chuo Line but may be on another track which is not the main Chuo Line track – BE CAREFUL!) to Okutama (leaving Shinjuku at 8:47 and arriving at Okutama at 10:24). David will be at the Okutama Station ticket gate at 10:27 to bring you to the supermarket and the river. We’ll have lunch on the river, swim, hike and do whatever you want. Very laid back day!!!

Especially for children, we can play frisbee, baseball, or whatever fun stuff you bring along.

We’ll have a good time in the park, so please bring anything you may want to play with (badmitton, frisbees, etc.). As the park has a Frisbee Golf course, some of us can do that as well. And the Cosmos flower hill should be in full bloom!!!

We will meet you at the ticket gate at YRP Nobi Station on the Keihin Kyuko Line at 10:30AM.

YRP Nobi Station – Roads and Nature Course to Karouto Mountain Kofun Park – Hikari Hill Water Park – Nature Course and roads to Nobi Coast Park – Coastal Boardwalk – – Keikyuu Nagasawa Station

Total course time: 4 hours

Take the Keio Line at 9:20AM from Shinjuku Station(going towards Kitano). Change at Kitano (arriving at 9:59, cross the platform and get on the 10:00 train going towards Takaosanguchi) and go to Takao station, arriving at 10:10AM. Change at Takao Station to the Chuo Line. Take the 10:18AM train going towards Ootsuki and get off at Ootsuki Station, arriving at 10:55AM. Using these trains, the total cost comes to 920 yen.

Meeting Place/Time: Ootsuki Station (Chuo Line) Ticket Gate 11:00AM (If you’re going from Shinjuku Station, we will meet on the front car of the Keio Line train at 9:20)

Walking time: about 4 hours

Please wear appropriate shoes (tennis shoes, hiking boots), bring a lunch to eat on the mountain, and plenty of liquids.

The cliffs on this hike are especially spectacular!!!

Meet at the JR Ohme Line’s Mitake Station’s Ticket Gate at 11:00AM. From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Line Rapid train going towards Takao at 9:26. This arrives at Tachikawa Station at 10:02. Get off there and change to the 10:07 Oume Line train (going towards Oume). This arrives at Oume (the last stop) at 10:38. Cross the platform and get on the 10:39 Oume Line train (going towards Okutama). This arrives at Mitake at 10:59. Be sure to arrive on this train as we will be unable to wait for the next one.

This trip will go from Mitake Station – Mitake Cable Car Station (by bus ¥270) – Mt Mitake (by Cable Car – ¥1090 round trip) – lunch – walk to shrine & overlook – Rock Garden & waterfall view – Mitake Station (by ropeway & bus) – Kabe Station (for Hot Springs – Optional)

If you want to go to the Hot Springs after the hike, please bring a change of clothes and a towel!

October 31 (Sunday) – PICNIC, PARK FUN & RIVER CLEAN UP!!! (¥500 Participation Fee) (Cancelled in case of rain) (EASY) NEW!

Meeting Place and Time: The East ticket gate of Higashi Oojima Station at 11:00AM

Those going from Shinjuku, take the Toei Shinjuku Line train (going towards MotoYawata) at 10:31. This arrives at Higashi Oojima at 10:57.

People who ride their bikes there can take either of the following routes and ride with JAMBO members:

10:00 – Under Kasaibashi Bridge (Koto Ward) (David will be waiting there) 080-6546-7688

10:00 – Under SenjuShinbashi Bridge (Adachi Ward (Leszek will be waiting there) 080-4369-2537

10:45 – The two cycling groups will meet under the Funaboribashi Bridge and go to Higashi Oojima Station from there.

People should bring picnic food and drinks (Christmas party sharing rules apply). There’s a supermarket near the station, so you can buy your goods there.

Especially for children, we can play frisbee, baseball, or whatever fun stuff you bring along.

We’ll do a garbage pick-up from 13:00 – 15:00PM at the nearby Arakawa River bank. If you’d like to join in, please bring work gloves if you have them.

November 28 (Sunday) – Kaburi Pass & Mt. Kuroyama Autumn Colors Hiking (Participation Fee 500 yen)(Intermediate Course) (Cancelled in case of rain) NEW!

From Ikebukuro, take the Seibu Ikebukuro (Express) Line’s 8:35AM train (going towards Seibu Chichibu) and get off at Agano Station, arriving there at 9:41AM. Make sure to get on this train as we cannot wait for the next one.

People going from Ikebukuro Station can meet at the front end of the train on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line platform at 8:33, or meet at Agano’s ticket gate at 9:45.

Walking Time: About 6 hours

Note: Kuroyama Santaki was once a training center for monks who practice asceticism, but now it has become a sightseeing spot for hikers.
